This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Feast of Legends from Wendy's

Quote from: Nihilistic Mind;1108023The Feast of Legends is a good bit of satire. There will be some that play it, once, maybe twice. There might even be a group that will play a somewhat lengthy campaign. But that doesn't change the fact that it is satire. It's a comedy piece.
Good satire is also a good example of whatever they are mimicking.

I feel the same way about a D&D 5e game using the Acquisitions Incorporated book. It's supposed to be comedy, and I understand that even though I don't appreciate the humor it is supposed to generate.

By now most of that crew are in nursing homes or, like Pat Pullings, in cemeteries.

Quote from: Omega;1107836More likely this would just re-infoce the idea that RPGs are for kids. Just like board games and cartoons.

I hope so! We need more kids playing the game so it doesn't go the way of comics, where only adults are buying comics now (due to price and content) and the industry will inevitably feel that shrink as attrition occurs and is not replaced by younger readers.

Board games on the other hand keeps getting renewed by younger players. Which is a good thing.

And they said D&D was the McDonalds of RPGs.

The thing that strikes me the most is again all the mean spirited hypocrisy I'm seeing from people online. Total lack of empathy. Total lack of self-awareness. Total lack of humor. Total lack of holding to principles. Why anyone would want to be in these communities is beyond me.

Oh, and in researching this I came to find the only people who have me blocked on #Twitter (that I know of), despite never interacting with them there, are Zak Smith and Jessica Price. Guess I'm offending the right people by proxy.

Quote from: Brad;1107570My buddy texted me about it earlier this morning and said a bunch of SJWs were protesting on Twitter, that people are talking about this instead of supporting indie publishers, Wendy's supports Trump, Wendy's doesn't pay their workers a living wage...

And unsurprisingly some are using it to take swipes at #CriticalRole because ultimately they resent the success of others, if not success itself.

Quote from: Mistwell;1107680Looks like Marin makes fun of Antifa on his Twitter as well.

I guess that means Daniel makes fun of #Antifa and endorses #Wendy's actions too, given they haven't completely denounced Martin. Yet somehow they get a pass.

Quote from: cenmarik;1108014It is the aim of each player to shut down or hijack social media campaigns, steal money from the corps, encourage mass boycotts, and expose corruption.

In other words it's #4Chan the RPG.

Quote from: Antiquation!;1108021Interesting "joke" in there about bribing people to commit real-world violence against a person in exchange for "winning the game forever" and "$1000" by mail.

Where?

Quote from: Brad;1107570It's basically a parody,

Quote from: Nihilistic Mind;1108023The Feast of Legends is a good bit of satire.

Quote from: Rhedyn;1108028Good satire is also a good example of whatever they are mimicking.

Technically it's parody, and I know because Kenneth Hite got really angry when I didn't know the proper definition of satire.

nope

Quote from: Anon Adderlan;1108102Where?

Page 14 under real-life ways to gain "Clout" (clearly referencing the in-game bonuses of Feast of Legends for eating real-life Wendy's items).

"Punch Todd Penegor in the face: You win Silence, Brand forever and I'll mail you $1000."

(burning your D&D books is also a listed option for Clout gain)

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;1107549Because it is a Wendy's commercial.

The "D&D Community" is just a Hasbro commercial, and a much more sinister one because most of the people believe that it is a real and natural thing. When a bunch of people who are all-in with the rainbow ampersand "we must gatekeep to keep out all the gatekeepers" Every-setting-is-Seattle COMMUNITY actually start saying (with a straight face) stuff like "We can't allow our D&D Community to be taken over by a massive corporation that is guilty of abuses"... I mean holy fuck.

BITCH, YOUR WHOLE "COMMUNITY" IS A MASSIVE CORPORATE TAKEOVER OF THE REAL HOBBY YOU NEVER ACTUALLY KNEW. And by HASBRO, a company twenty times more evil than Wendy's. I mean, it takes a special type of evil to use child labor to make cheap toys. But because Hasbro donates a thousand of its Eleventy Trillion Dollars in quarterly profits to some LGBT club, that means they're wonderful to these morons, whereas Wendy's is Satan Incarnate because the owner donated some money to the Bad Orange Man.

Quote from: Omega;1107686Jesus did Zweihander have some hand in this? I hope not.

He immediately tried to take peripheral credit for it, tweeting about how it was "his folx" who did this and how awesome it is and how he can't wait to play it with some delicious wendy's burgers... and then within an hour all the SJWs started hearing about it and they all agreed it was Nazi.
So now Fox has a serious problem: he's taken massive credit for something and exposed his personal IRL friends as the authors of something that the SJW crowd have decided must be absolutely and utterly condemned and the lives of anyone associated with it destroyed.

He can't just denounce it with a flip-flop, because doing so would affect his real-world relationships.

And of course, now every time the bitch opens his mouth I'll get to point out how he sang the praises of a Pro-Trump anti-lgbt worker-abusing evil right-wing megacorporation.

Okay but seriously folks, can we all just agree that THIS THREAD is the single most entertaining thing to come out of the stupid burger commercial RPG?

To be fair, it's one thing when a company makes a commercial for itself. Its another when you get a group of alleged "serious artists" who are totally playing a real RPG after all, and throw money at them to sell out and do a fake infomercial for Wendy's, which is what CR did. And of course now Matt Mercer is apologizing to SJWs for having associated with poisoned companies that like the Orange Bad Man.

That isn't why I had no interest in the game. I actually like Wendy's, it is my favorite fast food place (at least It was when I could still eat that stuff). I wasn't even aware people were taking issue with Wendy's over these reasons till someone in this thread mentioned. Generally I am not particularly interested in making sure all the brands I enjoy are wholesome or align with my politics. My whole point is I can't get excited about an RPG that is essentially just marketing for a restaurant (regardless of how good, bad or middle of the road the restaurant in question is). And the book just looked silly in a not terribly funny way when I leafed through it

ElBorak

I really enjoyed reading through Feast of Legends and got quite a few good laughs out of it. I think it is a lot of fun and it is never too soon to teach your kids to ignore commercials and here they are conveniently in the game.

LOL. These types are truly vile, contemptible creatures. I was about to say "I can't imagine the type of person who could write such propagandistic, incendiary drivel" except, well, I can...
