This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What are some of the best bad guys you've encountered in a game?

One of my faves was the Elf Killer, a wild-eyed maniac wearing a bandolier strung with pointy ears.  He'd roam the uncivilized areas of Greyhawk, ambushing any group that had elves or indentifiable half-elves.  IIRC we tangoed with him three times.  Once we fled in fear, once he and his orcish thugs killed the entire party, and on the third time we caught him in a bar on the Wild Coast.  My xvart witchdoctor hid behind the bar for much of the third fight, but the rest of party beat that guy down until he couldn't get back up.

Only when we started gathering the loot did we find out the Elf Killer's secret.  He didn't hate elves, his sentient sword did and the poor guy lacked the willpower to resist it.  We had to beat the crap out of our own fighter when he picked the damn sword up.

One of my favourites is Eneri Kalamanaru, from the classic FASA Traveller adventure trilogy The Legend of the Skyraiders. A great adventure, and a great recurring villain, the really irritating sort who always hides behind his henchmen. Memories, sigh. ;)

Victor - He was a very ethical necromancer.  He needed a little girl ghosts help.  She was lonely and missed her family.  So he killled her brother and dad in a manner that would make them ghosts as well so the family could be together and to help the little girl not be lonely as he promised.   The scariest part about him was that his perspective would start to make sense to people.

Neen Kardo, the super bounty hunter from our D20 Star Wars campaign. He was our nemesis, relentlessly hunting our asses down across the galaxy, he had some crazy custom gear, including a blaster with a high crit range and a DC25 stun! Every time we went toe to toe he could dish out the hurt and if things got hairy for him the DM'ed stun and jetpack out. Our Jedi had many a dangerous encounter with him, often surviving by the skin of our teeth.

That was until he showed up in the bar. Our resident Jedi Guardian dropped two crits in a with his very first two attacks. We'd never been happier to see a bad guy go. :D

One was Stan Urset.  He was the last ruler of an empire that had fallen a few centuries ago.  He was a psionic mummy that specialized in attacking through dreams.  When a new empire was declared that covered the same region, he started attacking the new heir in his dreams.

Gamewise, this set a clock on tomb raiding to save the heir.  Once they got close, Stan started attacking the party in their dreams, leaving them weaker and weaker until they finally killed him in the waking world.

In the final battle, no PCs died but they had <10 hp between them.

We played a Star Wars game using a friend's homebrew mechanic.  The "villains" were the two 14 year old girls who were supposed to be learning to be Jedi from our party's resident Jedi Master.  Our scenario involved the Rebels losing the battle at Endor.  We had to rescue Leia, Luke, Han and Chewie from the Emperor on Coruscant.  In the process, Luke was killed, Han was badly wounded and the two 14 year old girls?

Well, they both decided to turn to the Dark side, slew their master (Luke died in the firefight) and presented themselves on bended knees to Vader as apprentices.

I mean, why even put clothes on them at all?

Apparently "imperial-stamped" panties and leather too-short tube tops are all-the-rage in Sith Witch fashion...

I'm trying to decided which is worse: this picture or the Mr. Ed vs Darth Trigger light-saber battle...

Well, it wouldn't be the first time I suspect I've been used as inspiration for a villain, or an anti-hero.

My players loved the villain in my Feng Shui campaign (based in South Africa) cut from the same cloth as Foxy Cleopatra. The main thing about this villain, that her soul was that of a Nazi scientist dabbling in magic, who found himself transpoted into the body of this kung fu fighting ebony goddess  ...and leading a group of hard core black separatist :D (He adapted quickly).

It was so cool, the players expecting a jive talking hot mama and hearing the cliped tones (I kind of based his/her speech on a german porn actress...well actually it was dubbed, but hey.) of a Nazi creepazoid. Heavy Kung fu shit ensured, but always that damn voice grated and finally one of the players found himself falling for her/him...much more kung fu shit ensured :D

Sigmund

My favorite villian encountered in a game was my old game group, when the DM ran us through a Birthright campaign updated to 3.0 and used with the GnG combat system. We were defeated and captured by a small group of bandits led by a smarter than average troll that had levels of fighter (AAAGGHH). He was kick-ass and very menacing. We managed to escape, and then ended up facing the troll in an arena after he had been captured and finally defeated him. Don't remember his name (not sure we ever knew it), but he was cool.
