This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mongoose Traveller is pretty much Traveller, but everything else I like is new-school: Requiem, Dark Heresy, Treasure.

I hate Smilin' Jack.  From what I hear, he's been phased out of future releases, thank goodness.

Savage Worlds is weird in that it's one of the few games I can think of that simultaneously a RPGSite, RPGNet, and RPG blogosphere darling.

Quote from: Warthur;316600For me it's a tie between REIGN and Dark Heresy.

I must be one of the few people on the planet who doesn't love Savage Worlds; either that, or it's as much of an RPGsite darling as it is an RPG.net darling ;). Then again, my experience with it was in the context of the "Necessary Evil" campaign, which I understand wasn't the system's finest hour.

Believe me, you're not the only one. I actively despise Savage Worlds.
Read my blog, Monsters and Manuals, for campaign ideas, opinionated ranting, and collected game-related miscellania.

Buy Yoon-Suin, a campaign toolbox for fantasy games, giving you the equipment necessary to run a sandbox campaign in your own Yoon-Suin - a region of high adventure shrouded in ancient mysteries, opium smoke, great luxury and opulent cruelty.

I was thinking more along the lines of smash-mouth heroic action in a pulp setting (Savage Worlds) versus cunning schemes and worldplay in an absurdly decadent fantasy milieu (Dying Earth).

Imperator

Too many, seriously. I agree with many of the options already presented.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

You're not the only one. I have nothing against it, but I just can't bring myself to like it, for some reason. It's like it's either too close to other games I prefer, or it just is kind of weird in the parts that actually differ... I don't know. Can't really put my finger on the actual reason. The only iteration of Savage Worlds I would run would be Solomon Kane, because the setting's so great.

I really dislike savage worlds. Its stupid.

It would be a tie between The Lord of the Rings RPG from Decipher and the Cortex System games (Serenity, Battlestar Galactica, etc.).

RPGPundit

Savage Worlds is a game system, not game.

Savage Worlds is to The Savage World of Solomon Kane as BRP is to Call of Cthulu.

I don't think I'd have a good impression of Call of Cthulu from reading the BRP rules set.

RPGPundit

Maybe so, but in that case they fucked up the promotion and presentation.

Godlike.

Awesome, awesome game with a really interesting flavor and art style.

The mechanics are passable. This is a game I play for the setting though.

Second choice would be Epic RPG.

I found DecLOTR the most unspeakably dull game I have ever seen.

Now, DecTrek on the other, that game is goddamn brilliant.  Absolutely one of the finest games ever written.

Godlike is cool for the setting. I totally agree.

And I really like Decipher's LOTR game - excellent when you're not picky about the accuracy of the setting to the source material (the books, not the movies).

I have a soft spot for Burning Wheel.
