This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Favorite gaming blogs.

B.T.

Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

ggroy

I read grognardia once a week or so.

Mainly mentally sorting out the wheat (ie. commentary on old school stuff) from the chaff (ie. James Mal's personal biases).  At least James Mal is relatively frank about his personal biases having to do with his age, "brain damage", etc ... which makes the chaff easy to spot and ignore.

Simlasa

I've got a bunch that I do the daily dashboard scroll through and read whatever catches my eye...

Grognardia
D&D With Porn Stars
LotFP: RPG
The Alexandrian
Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque
The Other Side Blog
Dreams In The Lich House
B/X BLACKRAZOR
Akratic Wizardry
Gorgonmilk
Telecanter's Receding Rules
The Land Of Nod
The Nine and Thirty Kingdoms
Weird Opera, Metal Earth
Realms of Chirak
From the Sorcerer's Skull

There are others but those seem the most active and most likely to have something that interests me.

The Butcher

Grognardia. J. Mal used to have a pretty good regular feauture on RPGnet about running SF games in the late 1990s (or was it the early 2000s?). He released an obscure but clever SF RPG, Fourth Millennium, at about the same time. I started reading his "pulp fantasy D&D" posts on his older blog (pre-Grognardia), and then followed him into Grognardia. Say what you will, maybe he is the cocksmock everyone seems to think (he certainly is an orthodox, dyed-in-the-wool old schooler, despite having his share of oWoD and d20 writing credits), but he's well-informed, well-read and a good writer in my book. Also his posts got me reading Clark Ashton Smith and Jack Vance, for which I am forever grateful.

Jeff's Gameblog. Used to great and teeming with great ideas, now it's just good. I do understand that Jeff's in grad school and doesn't have as much time to post and think about gaming as before.

D&D With Porn Stars. I'd risk saying that between his very active blog and Vornheim, Zak has succeeded Jeff as the OSR's Prince of Gonzo. His wild, unabashed, madcap creativity is a wonder to behold, even if I don't always get to use his creations (often his stuff is a bit too gonzo for my usual tastes), and his GMing advice is usually solid gold.

The Retired Adventurer. Whatever his perceived failings, John Bell (Pseudoephedrine) is a gifted creator. He's a consummate world builder and posts a ton of good, game-table-ready material on that blog of his.

From The Sorcerer's Skull. Assorted good stuff. Seriously considering a Weird Adventures purchase right now.

Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque. Our own misterguignol's highly specialized blog. I do not have enough good words to speak about his Gothic D&D supplement. It is everything Ravenloft should have ever been, right from the start. Fuck Strahd, this is the real deal. I'm almost embarassed that he's decided to release it for free, it deserves to be a full-blown commercial setting (I suppose of all D&D-simulacra, LotFP would work best here) sitting on actual game store shelves.

The Metal Earth. Another source of great, ready-to-use stuff. Aos' ICONS notes have been particularly educational for me (I have zero experience with supers and a certain difficulty in grasping how exactly a supers game works).

I've recently been recommended The Nine and Thirty Kingdoms, as well as Abraxas but I've only recently started reading them.

I should mention that I haven't updated/revised the blog roll in many months, so some some of these blogs may no longer be operational, and I'm probably missing a number of great newer ones.

These days I probably only check a few blogs every week, as I just have too many other things on my plate.  I was way more active a couple of years ago.

Contributor to: Crypts & Things (old school \'swords & sorcery\'), Knockspell, and Fight On!

noisms

I have a lot on my RSS reader, but I'll give these a shout out:

Land of Nod is probably my favourite blog, just because the writer is such an inspiration - he's a creative whirlwind.

Roles, Rules and Rolls is always useful and interesting.

The Mule Abides doesn't need any introduction, but what the hell. The most consistently high-quality blog out there, in terms of theory and gaming history, probably.

The Alexandran is extremely varied, covering commentary, reviews, theory and design for all manner of games - ranging from story games to traditional D&D.
Read my blog, Monsters and Manuals, for campaign ideas, opinionated ranting, and collected game-related miscellania.

Buy Yoon-Suin, a campaign toolbox for fantasy games, giving you the equipment necessary to run a sandbox campaign in your own Yoon-Suin - a region of high adventure shrouded in ancient mysteries, opium smoke, great luxury and opulent cruelty.
