This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Since another thread has wandered into culinary musings I thought I would make it official...So what is your favorite nosh on game night and do you consume while at the table or is snacky time seperate from active play time?

The old standby Pizza (vegan/gluten free the last few years) is a fave. though lately fruit and green smoothies paired with pistachios and the random spicy chip smothered in middle eastern style dip has taken pole position for me!

No alchohol while I game...save that for after! Mead/sweet (cheap) sangria being my poison of choice.
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.

Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Insufficient Metal

A bag of sliced apples and some juice, usually. I find I avoid the crash that comes from feasting on sugar and all those yummy white carbs.

Tonight I had white cheddar popcorn and some sweet tea.

I don't drink during games... anymore. :hmm:

Pseudoephedrine

There's a girl in my Rogue Trader game who brings homemade cookies that are awesome. We nosh while we eat.

With my D&D group, we eat pizza and Dr. Pepper mainly, but we interrupt the game for it.

Pizza is a classic, though our CoC GM (who plays the drifter amateur astrogator in our Traveller game) has been bringing a mean sfiha to our latest games.

We've also found that eating right before the game is a time-saver for us.

Battle Carrots, home-made hummus, home-made baked goods, fruit trays, various flavored kettle chips.  Drinks are mostly water of whatever Blue-Sky my wife and I picked up that week.

Sfiha looks yummy...middle eastern style foods are a big hit with me,anything with eggplant YUM!
Eating right before with with official stretch/refresh breaks interspersed seems to work for most groups I run.

Eating in the midst of game at table has allways annoyed me...all that mouthy crunchy/slurping detracts from the atmosphere, unless its in the midst of a zombie horde combat ;)!,and the risk of greasy fingers/spills on books freaks me out!

Feel free to post some simple recipes/links to such all...god that sounds so Martha Stewertish..(is this appropriate for an RPG sight?)

Here is one of my fave smoothie recipes, very light and refreshing!

half a "meaty" style melon (honeydew, cantalope etc.)
2 stalks celery
1" ginger
option: some cucumber (which is a melon)
put melon in blender first and blend till smoothy!

We alternate, but normally we also have people bring snacks, and 4-5 people bring wine.
Here is a recent quote.
"Igbarian session, 2/29 (Tokush the 29th), last night, full attendance (7 players and a spouse), with dinner consisting of "Chicken 40 cloves of garlic", 4 cheeses, 10 loaves of bread to sop up the gravy, mixed greens salad, and cranberry walnut bread. Drank Giacomo Feniccio Cannubi Barolo 04, Silverado Reserve 02 Cab, Sterling 05 cab, Chappelet06 cab (Joe's Volvo, we call it), an 06 Aglianioco, a Rhone, and a Shiraz."

We always start 5:30-6 pm on Sunday, eat, cook, and get into game-mode and do char maintainence until about 6:30-7pm, then really gert serious.

I'd love to have a real, honest-to-God dinner before gaming, but my group is a tad too... heterogeneous for that.

So we order pizza and soda. It's gastronomically uninspired, but a crowd-pleaser.

We do drink spirits on occasion.
