This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Familiar names when I least expect it ...and that "WAR" thing

Abyssal Maw

Munchkin in it's original and early conception was indeed meant as an insult to  D&D players.

The thing with elfs (in which you play orally, anally, or genitally fixated caricatures who are directed by the rules to go around raping and brutalizing each other, and no, I'm not lying about that) is that it ends up saying a lot more about the forgies and their desperate attempts to slag people playing the "wrong game" than it ever did about D&D players. Once again, Ron wrote the game despite having next to zero experience with D&D or D&D players.

Dr Rotwang!

I ignore this kind of back-and-forth "Forge vs Trad Games" stuff all the time.

If there really is a war, then I'm winning it.

I love you, man!

Like in a totally manly way...no, wait, that totally didn't come out right.

Let's start again.  You are, indeed the winner if there is to be such a thing from this all of this War bullshit.  Thank you for once again bring a small sliver of sanity to this utterly useless discussion of "us vs. them".  It is greatly appreciated.

Actually Rotwang is a lot like my friend Mathew - just happly playing his games and trying to ignore the "War".

Except Mathew didn't know about it until I mentioned it later with him in the conversation.  He is very much a traditional /old style D&D player and DM.  He learned to play Dungeons & Dragons while in the Navy onboard submarines.

Sorry, that's dry humor again. Sometimes I forget emoticons.

To be fair, though, I would have said it with a totally straight face in person, too. I'm just deadpan that way.

EDIT: Though, despite being fairly horribly designed, it just goes to show how easy it is to make a game that functions on a basic level. It took me about 4 minutes for the Create a Character Challenge.

As for Ron Edwards and Elfs, well, considering how he doesn't know the first fucking thing about Dungeons and Dragons, I wonder where he gets off writing a parody. I love parody as much as the next person (maybe a lot more) but even so, you need to have a deep understanding of what you're parodying for it to be effective.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Actually, the only people it says anything about is Ron Edwards and the guys he chose to play D&D with.

So Ron made some bad choices in gaming partners early in his life?  Whatever.  Frankly, if those were the worst choices you made as an adolescent or young adult, you got off pretty good.

As far as any 'WAR' goes, let me be clear on my position. I'm not fighting one. If asked I'll state my opinion and then live and let live. I'm not telling anyone how or what to play.

It is nice to get confirmation on my opinion though, even the author agrees that it is MEANT as an insult. So you see, no war, I'm agreeing with Ron Edwards.
