This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The debate has raged (well not really) for over a century (more like 20 years). Now is your chance to choose a side.

Which is your favorite D&D cartoon character, and why? Have you ever emulated them in a game?

Jason Coplen

I voted for Venger, but all I really remember was that the cartoons were so cheesy, even to my young mind.
Running: HarnMaster, and prepping for Werewolf 5.

i voted sheila.  she's HAWT.
can't beat an invisibility cloak, either.

jrients

I voted Sheila as well.  As a wee lad I had a crush on her.

Well, I was gonna vote Sheila, because HAWT.  Plus, she's fun to draw.

But I ended up voting Eric -- because he's got the most potential, and the afrthest to go to become a hero.

i couldn't stand him at first, but he had a few good moments as the series went on.

but (swoon)

Drew

Eric the Cavalier.

As a kid I hated him, representing as he did all the stuffy trappings of adult authority wrapped in an arrogant, self serving attitude. Watching the DVD's recently though I had the dawning realisation that he's probably the sanest one of the bunch-- cautious, skeptical, and more concerned with escaping the psychedelic shitfest they've landed in than anyone else. He was the only one who even considered the possibility that Dungeon Master may have been yanking their chains all along.

Yes he's a coward and yes, he's an oaf, but he's the one character who doesn't immediately rush into a situation with club and bow blazing, convinced that might makes right. He actually thinks things through to their logical conclusion, which most of the time is if we attack those lizard men chances are we're going to get seriously fucked, and all for yet another one of those useless cryptic clues that midget in a robe teases us with every bloody week!

I implore you all, reappraise Eric. Think of him as what he is rather than the caricature that's filtered through the bullshit of a gang of snotty, morally superior kids. He's the bloke who knows who he is, what he is, and where he wants to be. Unlike Bobby the frickin' Barbarian, who's just an ADHD temper tantrum in a stupid hat.

Next Week: Capitalism, Free Market Economics and their Impact on Democracy via The Moomins.

obryn

I went with Venger because he was the only one who had a possibility of killing Bobby and Uni.

;)

Seriously, though, he was the original Warlock - my favorite of the new D&D classes.

Ronin

Hank was my favorite. He always seemed to have his shit together in comparison to the rest. Plus back in the day I thought he had the coolest magic item.

Gutboy Barrelhouse, you heathen.

I can't believe anyone voted for Eric, let alone the majority of you. I guess this site has more Republicans than normal though.

I was going to go for Shiela, but switched to Venger at the last minute.

I went with Tiamat for the sheer badassery and her use as an anti-hero.

I can empathize with Eric.  If I was thrown into that situation you'd have to pry that shield out of my cold dead hands.  I think I'd cry if I landed in that situation and I was told I was the acrobat.
