I don't think that was a choice before but this being Synnibarr I'm sure it would be little problem to whip up a Thri-keen for you.

Actually, that's one of the "variant races" available (there are 30 described for PC use).

I started detailing one of the adventure sites, presumably the first one the PCs will be directed to.  It's the 1 room (+ 1 secret room) cave near the large town.  This has 3 monsters (which I'm taking to mean 3 monster encounters - with the "number appearing" for each) and some adventurers.  Since there's only 2 rooms, I'm interpreting this as "one monster group outside, one inside, and one in the service of the adventurers".  

For the group outside, I scan the monster list - and on the first page, there's the "Aberiverim".  Which is described as "resembles a common rat, but have bright yellow fur".  They come in groups, and they squish pretty easy, but when 5 or more are together they have a crazy psi attack that knocks half your life points off the first time, and the second time stands a chance of killing you (via metabolic shock roll).  Their aura is "violet through red" - which means eeeevil.

What does this sound like to you?  I know the first thing that came to my mind:



Eeeeeevil Pikachu swarm.  Imagine, just the eyes, staring out at you from the forest.  "Pikaaaaaaaaa..."  AND THEN, MY FRIEND, YOU DIE.


Clearly, this is encounter #1.

In the cave?  Couple pages forward, we have "Batmen".  (No, they are not justice, nor are they the night.)  Come in groups of 1-6, they have a sonic wail attack.  Sounds perfect for the interior of the cave.
