This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I have no awareness that Jim Ward was involved with Star Frontiers. I know that David "Zeb" Cook and Steve Winter were heavily involved with Star Frontiers. Are you sure you're not thinking about Jim Ward's connections to Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World?

It happened in the last "Questioning Chrine bal Ca" thread and on The Pundit's forum.

It's highly possible this is just a licensing thing. It MIGHT be that WoTC is planning to do a sci-fi product, but I find that doubtful, and even if they were it would be sort of overkill to worry about a decades-old game.

I mean, they're still selling the old TSR D&D books, aren't they?

WOTC tends to not let go of its IP if they can help it. But there have been some slip ups that probably annoys the hell out of someone out there. Apparently they let some of their SPI acquisitions laps and they went public or somesuch. Hasbro has let a few acquisitions lapse as well.

So far we have not seen a publushed SF setting for 5e and they have yet to do a Gamma World for 5e. Maybee later but who knows.

RPGPundit

My guess is they won't do it; MAYBE only if they feel 5e is losing its shine as a kind of intermediate step before making a revised or new edition. But there's no sign of 5e losing its force right now, as they're using the right model for products.
