This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Blank Numbered Hex Maps

For your gaming pleasure:

I've made a 17"x22" sheet of blank, numbered hexagons and posted it for download here. While most on this board would want to use it for making RPG maps, the hexes are also sized to hold 1/2" counters if you're a wargame nerd like me.

The file is available in three forms:
  • In its original, 17x22 glory; bring this to Kinko's!
  • The full sheet separated onto four letter-sized pages.  Each page holds a quadrant of the full sheet.
  • For those who want to assemble their own full sheet from letter-sized pages, a version that can be assembled with a few cuts of the Xacto knife.  Each page overlaps its neighbors; cut lines are provided.  Use a good straightedge!

This sheet is the base for the Lairea shared world campaign map, mentioned by StormBringer in his announcement for the Herbal Guide.  Barring any disasters, a sample of that map will be posted soon at the Citadel to whet your collective appetite.  I daresay it looks quite good, even in its preliminary form; Lairea will be available for your viewing and contributing pleasure after the first quarter of 2009.

Wow What a beauty, Thanks! I was working on a 600 DPI 17x22 hex map last week. Everytime I added a map layer, it used 120MB of Ram and I ran out of memory fairly quickly only have 1/2 a Gig on my home pc.

Still have four of the Blank Judges Guild 17x22's but they are becoming very rare now. Good to have a 17x22 map I can run down to Kinkos and printout on short notice.

Thanks Again!
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

I have some projects that'll be glad of this!   Thanks, Ken!

Glad the file will be getting some use!

Let me know if it needs any tweaks; I was afraid I'd made it too light.  If so I can darken the lines a bit, no problems.

I must be doing something incorrectly - when I go to that link, I get a YouShare page that looks more like it wants me to upload...?

I just checked and it works for me, even signed out.

The page isn't headed "KenHR's Media Gallery - Blank Numbered Hex Map"?

I'll be happy to send you a copy for perusal via e-mail if you'd like.

ETA: Just in case, here's the link without any tags:

Cool.  The pages are a bit confusing; YouShare is ugly and no-frills, to put it nicely, but it was the first place I found when googling for free unlimited space, so that's where I ended up.

Added a 2-page pdf to the gallery.

Page 1 is a single letter-sized sheet of 1/4" hexes.

Page 2 superimposes a large hexgrid on top for zooming; each large hex is 6 small hexes side-to-side.  I find this a bit more wieldy than the Judges Guild hex system (and I know Rob has already made files for that on the page he's linked).
