This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Let's build a City

The only danger is when the scope of something gets too big. So things like your orcs having the highest caste and all of that, are huge. This is the basic problem with all collaboration: we have ideas that clash.

BUT there is a way through- and that way is compromise.

So I'm saying, you can still have your high caste orcs and everything! Just not in a way that defines orcs throughout the entire setting. Instead we're talking about a specific group of orcs. But this also leaves room for someone else who wants to detail another group of orcs, possibly totally out of line with your group. And someone else wants to write an article about yet another group of orcs, maybe a barbarian tribe. See, we can have it all, that way.

In the same way-- having a tavern is easier, because you can have hundreds of little taverns, and each one can be totally unique.

good thing I caught this before I got too deep into my cultural study of Paravail's orcs then, i was about to contradict the spirit of it. :p

EDIT::: I hate posting twice in a row, so update, I tried to add something to the 'Things' section, but instead I wound up making a 'things section' into an article or something. I'm not a wiki sort of Pika, so I'll let the expert sort it out.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Er, I'm certainly no expert, but I think I sorted the matter out ("Covenant Stone", right?).

By the way, I noticed that you used the term "Old Town" in a number of entries regarding orcs.  Did you mean to refer to the "Old City" or is "Old Town" a separate place in Paravail with a similar name?  I think it could be cool either way.  In the former sense, "Old Town" could simply be a colloquial, more familiar way of referring to Old Paravail.  In the latter, it could be a wholly separate district of the city.

Oh'p.  Re-reading your entries, it seems obvious that "Old Town" refers to the old part of the city (the Forum resides there).

Yeah, both right... I wasn't trying to create a new geography for the city

Sounds like fun. I do have two bits of advice.

First, pick up a copy of XRP's Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe. Has guidelines of putting cities, towns, villages, and manors together. Written for d20, but adaptable.

Second, heavy earthmoving equipment didn't make reordering the landscape possible, it just made it easy. In countries like Thailand and Vietnam you can find entire mountains terraced with rice fields, because they needed the space. Done by hand over long periods of time. The pyramids of Egypt were built by people with stone tools and no draft animals to speak of.
