This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I just thought it was curious that I've been unable to find any online fan sites, given the support other RPGs often have online.

There's a fairly lively Yahoo! Group, which is effectively the 'official' fan site.  Greg Stafford posts to it frequently.

Everybody knows your notes for Pendragon have to be written on vellum and hand-bound into a codex.

I can't think of much I'd put on a site now if I were running PD, I gotta say. There are good historical and quasi-historical sites out there that cover most of what I want, and the rest is most easily found in libraries.

Which version are you playing?  I just got the 5th version and the Campaign so I don't have any insights for you, but I'm hoping that after your game you'll have some insights for us.

IOW, please post some actual plays when you can!

RPGPundit

I'm running 5th edition, with the GPC book. Character creation session is on Sunday.

I'll try to remember to detail some actual play. Feel free to remind me after Sunday.

Hmm. For reasons that should be bloody obvious to anyone who knows anything about me, I hadn't even thought of checking on the WW pages.

I was a fan of White Wolf. Although I felt disappointed with their products and stopped buying them, I've got to admit I'm liking what they're doing with Pendragon. They're respecting the game, so far. Kudos to that.

Well, they really have nothing to do with the game, except that they're the publisher.

The guy who's handling the game is its original creator, Greg Stafford.

Who really needs to do a contemporary replacement for Prince Valiant...

I think that's the reason why they're doing it well. They're letting Greg Stafford do with the game what he pleases.

Which will be...complicated.  Greg created the game, but didn't write all of the text, so a new version would have to be written from scratch, not simply adapted.  Then there's the whole license with King Features, whom I gathered weren't entirely amenable to re-licensing the comic property (at least at one time -- I couldn't speak to their current outlook on the matter).

All that said, I have a semi-started adaptation of the game called Young Lord Hayato: the Story Telling Game, based on a fictitious manga series supposedly published in the 70s.  It would be, in effect, much like Mazes & Minotaurs, but using the actual Prince Valiant mechanics.  Alas, it lingers on a back, back burner.

Well, I'm not really fixed on the Prince Valiant aspect. As a matter of fact, one thing about the "new version" would probably be a new background. The most important thing would be a new introductory game with those simple mechanics.

On the other hand, the comics were great and illustrated all the parts of the gaming experience and even the rules. And they tied in nicely with Pendragon as the game to proceed to. Don't know whether a good replacement for that could be found... Kids nowadays, it probably would've to be Manga.
