This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

ESPN slams LARPing as "bad fantasy"

If it's the same commercial I saw, bad fantasy (larping) is standing around in a line, good fantasy (larping) is beating the snot out of each other.

I only actively follow one sport. I don't go to ESPN for information on it. Fuck those guys. Fuck LARPing too.

AsenRG

So tell me, what is wrong with ESPN aside from their questionable opinion on LARPing? I don't follow them, either, but then I never had;).

Oh yes, and it is funny trying to sell some app by bashing LARPing, I'd agree on that much:D!

I have never been a big sports fan, but I stopped watching them all together when they began to mix in politics with sports in their coverage. I do a lot of my entertainment to get away from politics for awhile.
"Meh."

Mordred Pendragon

Is it wrong to admit that I actually kind of like LARP'ing?

Thank you, now sign me up for the "ESPN and LARPing both suck" chorus:D!

Politics is a big part of it. I don't care to have sports and politics mix since, like gaming, I see sports as an escape from the shittiness of the real world. But it's more than that. More than a few of their people tend to be biased toward or against different teams, conferences, etc., and that can make watching a lot of their shows or game broadcasts painful. I can't count the number of times I've watched an Arkansas game where at least one member of the ESPN broadcast crew covering the game was actively rooting for the other team. A little professionalism would be appreciated.

I was already persuaded they suck, too, but thank you for adding the lack of impartiality to the list:).

Don't get me wrong. ESPN is hardly alone in suffering from that problem, and they do have a number of people who are good at their jobs. It's just a downside of having a lot of former players, former coaches, and people with close ties to teams working for you. The people in charge could do something about it, and the fact they don't is disappointing.

Yeah, I know it isn't alone, but the pervasion of an offense doesn't excuse it;).

I don't do fantasy sports, but I thought it was funny and hope Malachi finds a chill-pill in the minivan's seats.  So the jocks are trying to reclaim the "fantasy" label.  Whoop - good luck with that.  Have we come so far that we can no longer laugh at ourselves?  The only reason this is funny is that we are more relevant than we were ten year ago - a good thing.  And now that I think about it more, I say this add should be celebrated.
