This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm not into LARPing, but jeez, some jocks never outgrew high school, I see.

If I cared about sports, I wouldn't ask a bunch of D&D players about it.

You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

As one of those (probably not so) rare individuals who is a huge fan of both RPGs and sports, I can tell you without hesitation that ESPN has more than its share of idiots behind and in front of the cameras. So this sort of thing doesn't surprise me at all. It's not the first time I've rolled my eyes at their stupidity, and I'd be shocked if it was the last. If they didn't have such a stranglehold on SEC games, I'd hardly ever watch their stuff.

Dumarest

I don't get LARPing, but I also don't watch ESPN or care about opinions broadcast thereon. Why do you?

Wait, Shawn and I agree on something?

Although I needed to check the name to remember what ESPN is, all LARPs I've ever seen could be listed as proof to this idea.

Why? I used to play left wing in rugby and I was better than the average. But then it is larping

I don't think it's a clique issue more like a slow sports day so someone rolled out a story from the archives.

Ah it's a bad sales pitch. Don't like twitter but love the negative response they got lol

Ah read the entire thing, it's actually a bad sales pitch...epic fail from the comments.

Didn't ESPN (or ESPN 2?) broadcast the MtG championships, live from the WotC Game Center in Seattle?
(At least that's what the WotC employee claimed when he gave me a tour of the premises in ... 2000? 2001?)
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.

My takeaway from their video...

Running around outside and engaging with other human beings = lame.
Skulking by yourself in a parking lot with an iPad = cool.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.
