This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

ENWorld experiences financial trouble

Sorry to disagree, but that page took five minutes to load.

Less than 30 seconds to load, about average for Enworld. They haven't been down lately either, at least not the few times I checked in there, which is admittedly not often.
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Quote from: Mistwell;352224Interesting year-update from Morrus.  Figured I would stick it in this old thread rather than making a whole new one.

Thanks. I read that yesterday afternoon (CET) and also thought it well worth bringing up on this site.

As someone who hasn't ever been a paying subscriber/supporter before or after they changed their policy, can you let me know how exactly they changed their pricing policy in 2009? From Morrus' post it seems they benefited from this change as much as the increase in money from advertising (well, perhaps not literally "as much" but my impression is that these are the main two pillars of their currently doing well).
"Role-playing as a hobby always has been (and probably always will be) the demesne of the idle intellectual, as roleplaying requires several of the traits possesed by those with too much time and too much wasted potential."

A great RPG blog (not my own)

Basically, Morrus changed it from a $30 annual purchase to a $3 a month recurring charge. As a result, revenue is smoother and perhaps slightly increased. He also added some goodies that roll out every month to subscribers... which is appreciated, but it's an odd mishmash of products of various types. The War of the Burning Sky is the only one that's really appealed to me so far, and then only on a curiosity level.

Then it's you.  You can check independent load sites.  The times are roughly the same for this board and EnWorld now, and other than you I have not heard anyone complain about it for months.

There was a problem, they hired people to fix it, and it got fixed.  There is nothing different now about that vBulletin and this one essentially that should be causing load time issues for you, unless the server for this site happens to be much much closer to you than EnWorld I suppose (which still should not result in even a minute of difference much less 5).

I haven't had problems with load times at home or at school, even with the ads and stuff.

I don't think Mistwell meant "you personally," I think they meant "your computer or connection."

Indeed.

Nor do I see his reply that you quoted.  Could be he deleted it?

Aos

Indeed I did. I didn't realize it had been quoted, though, otherwise I would have just apologized.

No worries. You can tell me to fuck off any time.  I won't take it personally :)

I never say it unless I mean it personally- which is why I deleted it. :). Jesus, I just used a smiley. Mark the date.

An espresso machine, now a date, it's a friggin' good year starting for old Aos!

Mistwell

Hey, I also got an espresso machine for the new year.  A Nespresso Essenza.

Odd coincidence...
