This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Spoiler Warning (?)

I don't think there are any spoilers here, but just in case.

The Reynes of Castamere

Quote from:  GOT wikiThe World of Ice and Fire sourcebook (2014) reveals that Castamere, like Casterly Rock, started as a mine. As the ores were mined out, the Reynes converted the tunnels into a splendid underground residence, with only a modest castle and fortification above ground, but with grand galleries and rooms beneath the surface. This made the holdfast theoretically very capable of surviving long sieges – provided the goal of any attackers was to take hostages or seize the castle itself. Since Tywin was more than willing to exterminate the Reynes completely, he simply flooded Castamere through its air ducts, drowning everyone within. Although the sourcebook doesn't say what happened to Castamere after that, it must have been drained and made habitable again for it to be granted to the Spicers.

Abandoned castle on top of lost mines? Perfect! I'm thinking one part dungeon-crawl and one part gothic. The PCs are survivors of the attack, seeking to restore their House to power and get revenge on the Lannisters. It is set before the TV show, with a younger Tywin Lannister as the main villain, and ignore the part about the Spicers. The PCs could be:

  • You are one of Lord Reyne's younger lesser-known sons, who was left for dead on the battlefield, or disguised himself as a servant and escaped, etc. You are the direct heir to the House and want to retake your lands.
  • As above, but years earlier you were taken as hostage by House X. You were far away from Castsmere when your family was killed, and House X faked your death. Now you seek revenge for a family you barely knew.
  • As above, but you were the black sheep of the family and wandered through Esteros in a drunken stupor until the Lord of Light showed you the truth. And sorcery.
  • You were a faithful servant (Maester, Septa, Tutor, etc.) who escaped the chaos and sought out one of the above characers to serve.
  • You are a Warg from the Noth, and became a secret lover to one of the Reynes when he or she visited last year. Your goal is to avenge your lover's death. Stark's goal is to use you as a spy for a potential attack.
  • You're a commoner whose village was raised by the Lannisters. Your friends were tortured for gold and killed when they knew nothing. You escaped.
  • You're an older character, a noble from another minor house who was friends with the Reynes. The Lannisters ruined your house financially, and you've decided to help these youngsters get revenge.

There are plenty of ideas that wll work, as long as the player is committed to working towards the team goal.
