This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

End of the road (retiring from rpgs)

I have come to the end of the line in my "Role Playing Career" (If you will).   It has been a good 18 (almost 19) years but I have found I just don't enjoy rpgs anymore.

At first I thought it was because I GMed alot and never played.   So I quit running games and only played them.    Still I found myself still not enjoying them.

So after the Serenity game I am playing in ends (or more to the point my character can make an exit) and I selling all my game stuff and moving on.   .pdfs will be deleted and I will sell everything until I have nothing left rpg related.

Sad really because I have burned out and want to stop gaming.   I have people to game with, but I just dont have the interest.   Worse yet there is no doubt in my mind that what I am doing is good.

Anyway, I wish you guys the best.   The Rpg Outpost will stay up until the end of november and the goo forums will stay up either until the domain expires next year or someone buys the domain from me.

   Take care

I'd recommend just taking some time off before selling off and deleting books. I've seen a lot of people regret getting rid of their books after having some time away from gaming.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

I have done this before myself.

trust me don't sell your stuff just yet.

I now have a rule that if I don't use it in a year and have no intention to use it I get rid of it. I have a few exceptions though.

Burnout's a sad, inevitable thing.  Happens in every hobby.

What the Colonel said is wise.  Hang onto your stuff for the time being; later on you might have a clearer picture of what you want to do with the hobby.

Or you could mail it all to me.

Just sayin, is all.

What ColonelHardisson said.

Seriously, if you're burned out, you might find the flame re-igniting some time down the road.  I walked away from music after a succession of horrible experiences playing in bands, sold tons of gear...only to find myself wishing I hadn't done so a mere 2 years later.

By all means, if you're feeling that down about your gaming, it's definitely best to take a break from it all.

edit: damn, I gotta stop walking away from my desk in the middle of a post.  The folks above me have said it far better than I!
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

I have to echo the others, GM! Take a break, sure, but don't well the farm off until you're dead certain. Good luck, my friend! Go. Don't Play! Just let us know if you're back!

Just wondering, can you sell your PDFs instead of just deleting them?

Maybe a topic for another thread.

Anyway, I'll echo the advice of others. Don't get rid of everything. Maybe cut it down 90% if that gives you more room or mobility, but keep the best stuff, the stuff that'd be hardest to reacquire, the stuff you could maybe imagine wanting to play again, or even the stuff that evokes the fondest memories.

Then go camping or travelling or have a fling or whatever.

Sadly I have taken breaks and it hasnt helped.   It's clear to me that the thing is to move on.

If you must give up the hobby, at least hook a brother up with a sale thread. :)

Sorry to see someone leave the hobby, though.  We need all the good people we can get.

In my book that would be theft.

I dont know the legality of that.   Expecially when they have my name on it and I would have to break the watermarking.  If I could sell them instead of deleting them and make back some of the money it would be great.

I am down to only what I play and it doesnt help.   I dont plan on returning to the hobby.   I think you get to a point where you are at the end and you have to sell your stuff and move on.   I am at that point.

If I sold them and deleted any copies I have then no it wouldnt be.

Everything is going to go on Ebay.   I will link to all my ebay sales for you at least.

Exactly. It's your property, you can sell it. You just can't sell it more than once. Feel free to sell any of my stuff you have, if you have a customer.

I didn't know you long enough to become a good friend, but I liked your style, GM! We'll miss you!
