This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Welcome to theRPGsite, John Snead (hard to believe I'd be saying that!).
That's a very interesting essay, interesting in how it can even be applicable as a general concept-essay in Sci-fi, without having to have fuck all to do with Cthulhu. Well done.

Thanks.  I like to think that ES is both an awesome mythos game and also a game that could easily be used as the basis for a variety of CinUni non-mythos SF RPGs.

Other than All Flesh Must Be Eaten I have little experience with Unisystem. What changes, if any, can we expect to see in the system?

It's pretty much straight CinUni, except that I added an addition version of Drama Points (in between normal drama points and no drama points), and added three skills - Piloting, Psychic Art, and Wilderness.  Other than that, there are simply a bunch of Qualities for Augmentations, new powers, and suchlike, and of course new creature write-ups.

Above you mention the "exotic dimensions of hyperspace," and relate the bizarre nature of many Lovecraftian entities to a connection with hyperspace. That is a cool concept I can definitely get behind.

And at your kickstart site you mention the following:
QuoteIn 1994, human scientists cracked alien technology and overcame the lightspeed barrier. They brought us the stars. They also brought us the madness that lies between them, the mind-twisting undarkness of hyperspace.
From the statement above, I'm assuming that humans do have some understanding of the nature of hyperspace (or at least the way into hyperspace). How much do humans actually know about hyperspace at the start of the game?

They can see into it with spells and devices that allow you to see into these realms and they can skim along the borders of it via the dragonfly drive.  However, no one really understands hyperspace as anything other than bizarre alien dimensions where strange and often deadly creatures live, and where humans cannot visit.  People are much better at using it than understanding it.

So, how are things coming with the project?

Anybody have any news?

Yep.  Getting an RPG finished is often a process fraught with delays, but going from mid-December to mid-February at least isn't too long.  I've also seen a preliminary cover illo and it looks good - I think it will all be worth the wait.

indeed, better to take your time and release a quality product than rush out something shoddy and/or lacking.  thanks for taking your time on this ^_^

Sounds good! It will be cool to see.

Except if in that long, long time, nothing it seems is being done.

Work has been happening.  Lots of layout has been done, and I've seen some of the preliminary art (which looks excellent).  It's not done, but it's a whole lot closer to done than it was when the Kickstarter ended.  I'm fairly confident we'll meet the mid February deadline (barring major problems with the printer or other random disasters).

Cthulhu =/= Bacon, Cthulhu = Oregano (because a little goes a long way. best on savory dishes).

(Edit: finally had a chance to pour through this topic, which was before I joined. This looks promising, especially since there seems to be a more delicate touch. I was afraid Mythos was soon to be as played out as zombies have become.)

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.
