This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Eldritch Skies -- Lovecraftian Sci-Fi

Just wondering if anyone here has been following the development of Eldritch Skies. I'm shamelessly spreading the word about the Kickstarter project, 'cause I'm seriously hoping this gets made. :)

I'd heard about it but so far I'm not all that interested.
Cthulhu Rising, along with some borrowings from Eclipse Phase and Dark Space, probably has me covered if I want Mythos in space.

Seanchai

I'm interested - interested indeed! - but I'm not going to put money down on that kind of scheme.

I'm 50/50 based on this vid. I've seen a lot of Lovecraftian sci-fi come and go over the past few years, but it's mostly been shit. If this game can go beyond the same overdone "We get eaten by the Mythos" / "We shoot the Mythos in the head" stuff, it could be worth picking up.

I watched the vid. Did anyone else get "Hi, I am [strike]a puppet for the Great Old Ones[/strike] writing Eldritch Skies."

What would you like to see? Note, I have nothing to do with the production of this game, but I'm always interested in what people would like in as SF Mythos game.

I think Snead's on the right track by injecting wonder and exploration. My two favourite Lovecraft stories are At the Mountains of Madness and the Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, both of which provoke feeling of awe rather than dread at the world you're being shown (Mountains does resolve into a typical horror plot, but the early section, where they're exploring the city, is all about the grandeur of that mural depicting the true history of pre-humanity).

A Unisystem SF RPG (Cthulhu or not)?

Now I'm all ears.
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

That's a good point. While I think horror obviously is a huge part of the Lovecraftian universe, so is the awe-inspiring scale.
