This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Age of Fable;258136This is a quote in the 1st edition Dungeon Master's Guide:

"While it is possible to generate some fairly playable characters by rolling 3d6, there is often an extended period of attempts at finding a suitable one due to quirks of the dice."

It goes on to recommend various systems that more or less ensure that you get a ridiculously over-powered character (for example roll 3d6 six times for each attribute, take the highest result).

So I don't think it's a new thing, sadly.

More than you might realize. The 1st edition rules talk about creating encounters that were appropriate for for their level and abilities, fudging dice if necessary so that the characters didn't fail or die, etc..

This whole Tyranny of Fun thing is dumb.

Quote from: Seanchai;258753It's because they're assholes who couldn't just say, "4e isn't my cup of tea," but instead said, "4e isn't my cup of tea and anyone who enjoys it is a loser."

Likewise, there are 4e fans who call anyone who isn't satisfied with what 4e offers to be "nostalgia gamers" who are "living in the past and refuse to evolve". Not to mention the obnoxious 4e shills who pushed the game down everyone's throat when it first came out. So there are assholes on both sides of the Edition Wars.
"Meh."
