This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's a good thing the posters here don't do the same...well, at least not for "righteousness" by any sane definition.

Very unfortunate. I hope he conquered all his demons before the end.
As far as gaming is concerned, I have no socio-political nor religious views.

I went around reddit and saw their threads in their different little subforums.  It's really really awful there, much worse than I would have guessed.

The very worst is the shithead mods locking them, so people can't correct the story so any normie who runs across it later will see all the misinformation and think "Wow this guy was a racist"

If you want to see some change on reddit, report the posts of the jerks on r/osr and r/rpg and make the mods live up to their own standards/rules, they have "no harassment" rules, flag the posters for their harassment.

This guy was Tenser, correct? May he rest in peace. Some of my favorite spells came from him.

Also, to clarify, if I understand this correctly, a rogue member of his company wrote the really bad Star Frontiers thing with a literal Negro race that had low intelligence and the Nordic race that was superior in all mechanical ways? Like, had heard he wasn't actually involved in that, beyond the actions of a secret neo-nazi having destroyed his reputation unfairly right?

Leave it to Reddit not to actually look into things if so.

Far as can tell no one at nTSR was aware of it till the creep started posting snippets.

That was my understanding as well. Could be wrong, but that's how I remember it being explained at the time.

That may not necessarily work. I've done that on another subreddit and after two reports about a bunch of protest march calls to action spammed the local subreddit, got dinged for "abuse of the reporting function".

Can we try to stick to verified information? What I know is from Tenkar's video looking over the lengthy PDF, which was credited as written by Dave Johnson and Justin LaNasa. The manuscript was supposedly the "TSR CON edition printing", and it includes a dedication from Ernest entitled "In humble honor and respect to the teachings of the highest-level Game Master of the 20th Century. My father, E. Gary Gygax".

Tenkar is credited with breaking the story with the PDF. Here's his video on it:

Now, just because that Ernest's dedication is in the manuscript doesn't mean that Ernest read the contents of the manuscript, but it is his dedication on the same manuscript as the racist material. I'd welcome other information on this if it has real sources.

The Star Frontiers manuscript is available as an appendix in the court filing for the WotC lawsuit.

I don't have Facebook, but a Yahoo News article apparently alleged via link that there was a Facebook post TSR put out where they claimed that was never in their book. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if that one dude somehow snuck it past them and in there.

Can somebody with Facebook find that link in the article and verify what was actually said?

I have Facebook, but the link is broken. However, searching for it, I turned up that Don Semora (of "Vlog of Many Things") has said that he was the one who leaked the Star Frontiers: New Genesis manuscript and that Ernie Gygax had nothing to with writing Star Frontier: New Genesis.

https://www.youtube.com/live/8-CGHircSaA?si=c5je6jtV7vsSKRtl&t=712

According to Don, Ernie wrote that dedication for a previous attempted board game by LaNasa's TSR. Later, LaNasa and Dave Johnson wrote the Star Frontiers manuscript and cut and pasted Ernie's dedication into that new game.

So yes, Ernie wrote the dedication that appears in the racist manuscript. But no, it appears he wasn't involved in the writing of that manuscript.

SHARK

Greetings!

You know, Tenkar seems like he is a cool dude.

I don't know what E. Gygax Jr. was doing with these other people at NuTSR, but damn. All of these assorted people involved with NuTSR, all of it, seem so scummy and terrible. A bunch of washed-up nobodies desperately grasping for some kind of limelight and a quick buck.

I've heard a few of them on podcasts or referenced in quotes and interviews, and so many of them are fighting with Blah-Blah over who owns what, who edited A, who "Really" came up with X, who really started Convention Bubblegum, and on and on and on.

Meanwhile, I don't own a fucking thing ever written by any of them. I've never met any of them at any game convention I have attended. As far as I am concerned, most of them seem very obscure and irrelevant. Beyond that, as I said, you have grown men usually in their 50's or older, fighting over fucking nothing. Absolute scraps of some hoped-for spotlight, or a few fucking grifting dollars. Or "Credit" and prestige of some kind. They all seem so pathetic.

Semper Fidelis,

Most of reddit is controlled by a few powermods who mod like 1000+ subs, so they will absolutely defend their own. I've seen secondhand where they respond to someone reporting an obvious call to violence (three guesses against whom) and say basically this isn't a threat, if you keep reporting it you'll be reported to the admins for harassment.

Whole site is cooked and taken over by left-wing crazies.
