The book is an odd size and I'm finding that when I carry it tucked under my arm with other standard sized notebooks and folders, the damn thing likes to slip out and fall taking everything else with it in a chain reaction of falling paper products. It's a small thing, but it is becomming annoying.
Told you my complaint was dumb.
I've gotten to like the book's size... It takes up less bag and table real-estate. :)

as someone who works in retail, it sucks.
Something about the proportions of the book seem to make my copy stay open more easily without stressing the spine. Is this a universal feature or am I just lucky?

Mine does too. Still hate funky book sizes. I like them 8.5 x 11 or thereabouts. The way I understand it, the SWSE format is a lot harder for pirates to scan. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

No I hear you, it fucks up my Feng Shui too.
Spiral bound for all RPGs. Something that is that widely spread among a community should never have to deal with my insecurities of how to deal with books without damaging them.
It does stay open nicely on a table, but I dislike the size. The book just looks odd sitting next to normal sized books on my shelf.
As far as scanning difficulty, it has been available for pirate download for quite some time.

Oh, I'm sure. But how does it look? It seems like it would be print ugly.

Nope. Pretty much anything you download is available at the same quality you'd expect a PDF to be. Gone are the days of crappy scans my friend.
Edit
I own two hard copies of SWSE, just so we're clear....

I'm not talking about scan quality I'm talking about paper size. If a book is 7 x 13" (or whatever) and you print it on 8.5 x 11" paper, it seems like it would look a little strange or skewed. Maybe not, though.
Pete
I have also noticed it sits better. It carries better, too, imho.
I dunno; my D&D books feel all fat & clumsy after working with this one for the past few months.

Nope, there seems to be no problems as far as I can tell.

OK. I don't know enough about printers to understand how it scales the same, but if you say it does, I guess it does.

I don't think ease of piracy should figure into book design. :)
Actually, I like the size, but I wish for slightly more pages... perhaps.
If the kind of character sheet that comes out of your standard issue printer doesn't fit neatly between front cover and first page, your book design is a failure and must be reviewed.
I can wait, Wizards. I can wait.
