This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Drugs and Gaming.

You might think that, but a 4.0 GPA, two jobs and many promotions later....

For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

I'd like to think no one here is laying like that, but as my career has shown me you just never know. Still I hope no would ever do something so crass.

Consonant Dude

A few months ago I was the lone player in a D&D game that wasn't stoned out of his mind. After a few sessions, I just got bored and left that group.

My current group matches my personal preferences:

We each drink one or two beers/glasses of wine. There's no usage of drugs, although I wouldn't mind if the person still had a brain.

I run a yearly Christmas-themed session with some old friends during the holidays. It's been a tradition now for 16 years and we are totally, totally drunk most of the time but that's an exception.

Paranoid control freak that I am, I'm pretty much completely unwilling to be in the company of people when they're drunk / drinking or stoned.

Nope, I dislike people in general at the best of times.  People who are wilfully sacrificing their self control and decorum?  Do I get legal immunity and an automatic shotgun?  Same thing as zombies as far as I'm concerned. ;)

So it's probably odd that I'm completely unwilling to support the government's ongoing encouragement of criminal syndicates and gang wars.  Which is what any sort of prohibition does.  Even over taxing cigarettes in Canada has made smuggling them a lucrative enterprise.

On the other hand I would support making it invalidate insurance.

So I want it legalized.  Just don't do it around me please.

In Canada, smokers are a net gain for the health care system. Palliative and geriatric care are two of the most expensive kinds of health care, and smokers require smaller amounts of either compared to the ordinary population. The government's financial interests are best served by having you die as quickly as possible after you stop producing more tax money than you cost them.

I don't care what people do to themselves, but i wouldn't want to sit at a table in a cloud of smoke or hash or whatever. Physically it makes me ill (hash smoke makes me exceptionbally nauseaous as its so sickly). I wouldn't want to play with people drunk either. I take my playing seriously enough to want to do it properly and if the others can't respect that, well, thanks for coming.

Personally, I never tell people when I'm smoking pot outside. Firstly, they might want some. Secondly, they don't really need to know.

... you could be stocked on pot though the holidays!

I'll just say that gaming goes smoother for our group when the only distraction is ourselves.

It makes it easier to dispense with all the conversation, yeah. The other favorite is being on medication, which made the earlier thread about meds stand out like a red flag to me, even if that wasn't the intention.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

In my gaming group its quite common to drink: Beer, martinis, mead, single-malt scotch, you name it. And of course, half of my players smoke pipes.

The one thing that's not allowed is smoking cigarettes in the living room, you have to go out on the balcony for that. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes.

The same rule applies for weed, but only a couple of my players are still young enough to regularly smoke weed.

Geez Pundit - sounds like your bunch  guys are a bunch of academics or professor types playing RPGs.

Okay - wait that makes perfect sense. Never mind.

 Added bit :
The thing about drugs and gaming is  - WHY?

Its already a little ood or different just playing a typical playing game....doing drugs along with it just seems either reduundant or an exerecise in why bother?
You're already pretending to be something you're not at times during the game ...mind altering stuff really isn't needed.  A Basic really Good imagination should be enough of a high.

A beer or two or a puff or three on a pipe to mellow out - thats understandable.
