This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

DriveThru RPG "Black Creator Spotlight"

Can somebody please read the runes and tell me what exactly "Black Creator Spotlight" means? It's a highlighted section, so it must be important to someone there. It says "100% of your purchase supports these titles for Black History Month". Judging by the titles in the list, there doesn't seem to be anything to do with black history, so I can only assume that all those titles were written by black creators. Sorry to be all cliched, but I don't ever remember buying anything because the creator was of a specific racial group. I don't really see the point of this.

Funny how Mike Pondsmith, who is undoubtedly black and whose credits include everything from R. Talsorian Games is not included in the sale. There sure are a Hell of a lot of Ponyfinder products in there, though.
"Meh."

Looking through the links, quite a few of the creators are companies. I wonder what criteria is being used? Do you just need a token member of staff to make your company "black"?

Call me old-fashioned, but I only buy a game if it's good. I don't give a fudge who made it or what their background is (unless it is by an evil woke scold of course).

That said, I do have a lot of G. D. Grayson's stuff. Why? Because he's a good game designer.

If it was for "Conservative Creator Spotlight" or "Christian Creator Spotlight" would you see the point of it?

Only talentless hacks need quotas, Maximum Mike has more talent on his pinky finger than the whole Buy Large Mansions movement and their sicophants combined.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Quotas?  Quotas?  We don't need no stinking quotas.

Why would anyone spotlight either of those groups, specially conservatives? I can sorta see someone spotlighting Christian creators who push religion in their books (assuming those even exist in RPGs, like they do in music, film and such), but that would be more appropriate to a Christian-specific site promoting Christian stuff. Outside that context it doesn't even make sense, though.

That's why he isn't included.  ;)

I mean, if they are going to be fair, how many other 'special minorities' will they do?

Can I demand an Irish one too, that only highlights all the 'supremely good' Irish creators out there? AKA - None.

And what about all the creators with speech impediments? Where's their voice?

Okay, so what happens if your beloved creator has 'alien hand syndrome'? Will drivethru lend him a hand??

Thats easy.

If you dont buy these products then you are Wacist!

Drive-thru's been like this a few years now. This is just par for the course.

And why no Hispanic or Oriental or other non-cred-worthy minority spotlight? I am sure they will have a "Disabled Creator Spotlight" later so they can check off all the boxes because thats all we are to them. A check mark on a list.

Remember back when they declared that they would not be posting any guidelines on what would be considered Wacist and deleted because. "They'd know it when they see it."

Try looking in a mirror Drive-Thru. Because stunts like this are the epitome of demeaning.
