This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Don't be a dick at a con.

Quote from: James McMurrayAh. I did a search for Ron Edwards games and the site google sent me to showed Sorcerer and Elfs only, although Sorcerer apparently has a few sourcebooks (one of which is dedicated to characters having sex?).

Well, he is the big expert on Rodent penises.

Quote from: SpikeSee, we have a failure to communicate here.  I did not advocate piracy, merely the discussion of it's existance and relative merits and failings.

More to the point, I wasn't trolling, and I wasn't using piracy, or rather the offer of it to troll with.  That was further upstream.

I wasn't really responding to you so much as the OP who suggested offering up BW PDFs...

QuoteBy all means, keep piracy off the boards, but banning discussion of it? There we'd have to lock horns.  The skeleton in the closet doesn't go away just because you close the door and refuse to talk about it. Sometimes you gotta haul that sucker into the light and bury it.

Ok, don't know where that came from. I have no problem whatsoever with people talking about "piracy" as an issue here.
Just as long as they don't put up bootleg PDFs on here, or links to them.

Ah, but at least we know he got his expertise through academia. The question of where you learned so much about them is still up in the air.

Quote from: RPGPunditThat's surprising on your part. Now if we could get you to actually admit the point that was more fundamental to all of this, rather than the one no one but you raised; I wasn't ever making the argument that I'm as significant as you are; I was making the argument (as were many other people here), that the average GM who shows up at a CON to volunteer his time and effort is making an equally significant contribution to a con as you are when you go to GM, and that you don't merit special attention (and even if you did, if you were a more serious celebrity, like the designers of more mainstream games, its really bad taste to run around like primma donna demanding it).

You know what? I was going to post something that would imbue you with a new asshole, but then I went and reread the source post. There's no point in responding to you since you haven't read the post. Read it and respond to the whole thing and we'll talk. Don't give me your bullshit talking points, O'Reilly. Read it and see if you can grasp the entirety of its multiplex concepts.

I will add this: You know why I'm not a regular GM? Because I do a con a month and I typically travel great distances to attend the cons. And at many cons I attend, my games are a draw. People pay admission to play in my games. Based on all of that I do expect "special consideration." Sue me, Hunter. I expect not to have to deal with the same disorganized, pointless bullshit every weekend.

Anyway, read that post. Here's a link:

If you absolutely can't parse it, Rush, I'll spell it out for you here in detail. Let me know how it goes.

As I said earlier, you quoted me. I suggested it was a topic that was barred, and you agreed.  THAT is where I came from.  I GUESSED you meant the original post... but I only KNEW what you quoted and responded to. :)
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Okay, the original post which prompted this thread and Luke's response to it, have confirmed that Luke is an attention junkie.

So what? Why the fuck else would anyone write an rpg? It's either that, or dress up like Sailor Moon:

Man, that is one of my favorite pictures of me. I actually got it blown up to a nice glossy 12x18, had it framed and sent it to my mom for Christmas. If you look closely, you can see the attention needle track marks between my fingers. I was so high when that photo was taken.

Oh, and I'd like to point out that you all started this thread. Started it for 14 pages! I'm just having some fun.

I think the general consensus is that the Japanese now have taken over when it comes to straight weirdness. Even thigh-slapping dances can't compete with used panty vending machines.

On the other hand, I can't honestly deny that I didn't once met some role-players dressed up in a corset.

OK you lost me now. I was giving you the favor of the doubt, but that´s really  stupid what you are saying. My games are also a draw, I prep harder than most Thematicians I know, I pay for my own travel, I provide handouts and illustrations. People play admission to play games at a con, mine included. Every GM does what you do, and thereby furthering the popularity of other people´s or companies games. You do it for your own game, which usually should make YOU pay an advertisement fee at cons.

I find your view on this distasteful. That´s my data point.

Quote from: Erik BoielleYou can't get one without the other - you gotta keep mowing and fumagating out the swine, or they swarm and infest things.

Bollocks.

You see, I don't need to explain myself to Paka or anyone else, but I find them interesting and don't particularly want them thinking the only reason people post here is to shit on them and those like them.

Me, I don't find my enjoyment of one type of game causes me to have to shit on some other kind, and frequently I'm unpersuaded the other kind is even all that different.

As I said above, I post here despite the fixation on swine, you see I have fun gaming so I don't feel the need to create some bullshit tribalism to justify myself.

Balbinus

The board has to crack down on software piracy, just as it would if someone were sharing hacking techniques (language changes, bite me), because those are issues that could lead to legal sanctions that would get the board closed down.

Simple as that really, it's not a censorship issue, it's an only a fuckwit would permit the board to be used to promote activities that could result in being sued or prosecuted into oblivion issue.

I will to expand a bit on this.

I'm convinced that most people that have the biggest flames over Internet could get along quite well if they met in person. We're not relating to real people here, we're relating to Internet personas. I'm sure that most of the anti-"Swine" commando could game with indie designers and have a good time. Actually, I'm convinced that Pundit cold enjoy a lot of a BW demo by Luke, though maybe BW is a bit too rules-heavy for Pundit's stated preferences. But as long you don't know the real person, is easy to shit on them,

And again, and as always, I agree with Balbinus: loving old school game shouldn't be a barrier for enjoying new games.
