This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Don't be a dick at a con.

Out of passing interest, does you all include those of us posting to the thread on tangential topics and those posting to it to say that BW is a good game?  Just curious.

Incidentally, Pundit for all his faults runs a good game in his home town and runs a board I personally enjoy, as far as I'm concerned that's making a contribution.  You may not like the guy, I'd be surprised if you did, but he is making a real contribution for all that.

I mean, I hate all this swine shit, but I still appreciate having a board where I can shoot the breeze on rpgs without moderation and with similarly crusty grognards.  That is a real contribution.

I revived the thread because I thought it was funny but that I felt you all deserved to be poked for being dicks. What's a matter, I'm not allowed to have good humor about such a thing? You mad because I'm being a good sport about your dickery? Or would you all prefer to squat in sullen silence in this darkened corner of the internet like the man in Andy K's pleasant little anecdote?

And you know what? At least I had the common decency to contribute something positive to the game world before getting on my knees and asking people to jizz on my face. You, sir, have done nothing but wallow in your own vitriolic vanity and bizzare crusades, declare yourself an underwear pervert crusader and fall to your knees screaming, "I'm Rush Thompson O'Reilly, love me, please!"

We love you and read your stuff because you're funny. You're easy to laugh at -- such a parody that nothing more needs to be said. So please keep up the good work. We need a court jester. I for one will continue to actually put my fucking money where my mouth is and jump in the ring and participate in the hobby and industry at large.

And J Arcane, give me a break. The thread that this thread sources had been dead for a fucking year. Now you're trying to bust my balls about being a month and a half late to the party in this internet hick town? Come on. Live a little. Let's have some fun.

I have laughed so loud that my g/f is looking at me like crazy. :D

Quote from: SpikeSo, in order to make a character I need the character burner, but in order to actually play the game I need the BWFRS?   Seems slightly wacky to me, but then I view the DMG as strictly optional to D&D these days...

My real confusion now comes from the method of purchase. I seem to recall seeing that you could get the... er... FRPS bundled with the character burner or you could get just the... um... FRPS? but you couldn't get the other except in the bundle.

I mean? What do I need to tell my FLGS to actually stock so they can move those monster burners they always have.  I'm not going to go into the ordering an stocking process for this place....

In my FLGS the FRPS and CB were bundled, which makes sense.

Think of it as a GM book and a players book, that's basically how it works.

They are well written, some folk hate the tone but I liked it (it's chatty, so it's the kind of thing one can take to or not depending on how you find the tone), solid in terms of rules and quite old school in approach.  He gives you the game, tells you how it works and then leaves you to it.

To me, BW is a great old school game, others find it very new age [Edit:  As in a hippy Forgey type game] which is cool and possibly a testament to how good it is, but to me I see all the old school goodness I know and love.

No idea what's going on with your FLGS, you need the FRPS and the CB and in the UK they are bundled together.  Luke, can you help with this?

I don't know Luke personally, but I don't think so.

I agree with this. Now, Luke shoots the breeze like in no other board. :D And after all, is a question of sportmanship.

Wow.  I don't know Burning Wheel.  I don't know you. I'd written off the discussion of your reaction to your con treatment as a year-old thread and a difference of opinion.

But you, sir, are a Prick. However, I want to thank you for finally giving me a reason to figure out how to use the Ignore function.

If this is such a hick-town, how come you are here?  How come you care about what anyone here thinks of you or your con treatment? WTF are you doing here?

The only thing I can think of is that in your sense of self-importance, you've come to look at the monkeys in the zoo play. This tends to reinforce everything being said about you with respect to your behavior post-con.

And for someone who has published a game and wants to, I assume, sell more, this behavior is quite bizarre. I had heard about Burning Wheel and considered giving it a look next year.  But I have to say that's not going to happen now.

And before you tell me you don't want people like me to buy your game anyway, please know that the feeling is mutual, and I won't hear it because you'll be the first on my ignore list. Congrats! It's another way to help you feel as special as you think you are!

Tell me Luke, is the writing in your oh so great little books this contrived?

Your posts here have to be some of the most pathetically tryhard tripe I've seen since I was in junior high.  You're really straining sooo hard to be all clever and shit, and mostly you just come off as a ridiculous ass.

Luke, stop it.

So, this guy was banned from RPG.net and he went to his blog and he complained about moderator practices that he found lacking.  And he had vitriol in his posts, turns out he got a listenership.  Good for him, right?

But his listeners demand vitriol.  The poor guy, when he posts friendly posts or does anything less than scream up and down, stamping his feet, he get's two or three responses, next to the dozens upon of responses he get's and craves when he bad-mouths GNS, Ron Edwards or Rebecca Borgstrom.

Like so many, he is a slave to his anger and you aren't making it any better.

Also, how many copies of the Dictionary of Mu do I have to sell to demand that a con makes my entry to the hotel a staged event like a gangstah rap video mixed with a Broadway musical number?

Yeah, I know, but I just felt kind of ornery you know?

Actually, I just wanted to use the word ornery which I view as one of America's greatest contributions to world culture.

I've only seen it once in a FLGS in Madrid, and the two books were bundled together.

Paka, I can't speak for others but I post here for the following reasons:

1.  Most posters here like the same kind of games I do, which is nice you know?

2.  There's no moderation, I like that.

3.  Eh, back to 1 really, I like having a more grognardy site.  I'm not so into story games, I think they're cool and I'm genuinely glad they exist but I like the trad stuff and I like being somewhere people who like that stuff tend to post.

I post here despite the swine stuff and the attacks on the Forge, I don't think I'm remotely alone on that.  I post here for the trad gaming love, not for the indie gaming hate.

Um the Character Burner and the BWRPS books come together, for what 25 bucks? I mean its cheap, comes TOGETHER (they aren't sold seperatly unless someone is trying to rip you off)

I'm not a fan of Burning Wheel, its far too crunchy for my tastes, but still. I don't think there is any kind of issue with how its presented for me (two books that come together=same as one book to me)

Now if they sold them seperatly I might complain...

On the other hand the Monster Burner should be Bundled, they should make it a BIG huge Burning Empires Hardback and sell it for 50 bucks but...well

Not my game ;)

I check out the threads here.  I hear ya.

I'm glad that you and everyone who posts here has their niche.

Rock on with your bad self.

You can't get one without the other - you gotta keep mowing and fumagating out the swine, or they swarm and infest things.

I concur with this analysis wholeheartedly.  I read the thread back when it was first posted, and the RPGnet version someone pointed me to, and came away with the concolusion that maybe the guy was kind of an egotist, but I was only really getting one part of it and didn't care enough to invest much judgement.

Now that he's shown his immature little ass here, I KNOW he's an egotistical jackass.

See... Silver, I've never seen it for sale, just the Monster Burner taunting me from the shelves...

I don't know anything about it but what I can read online. I'd READ, and I'll be damned where, that one of the books (just the one) was sold seperately, but never any mentions of price.

25 bucks for both? Fair deal.  I like single books, easier to keep track of don'cha know, but I probably can't cry about the price. Now I just have to get the local game store guys to realize that carrying copies of the 'monster manual' without copies of the 'players guide' is dumb, then we might be in business.

The fact that Luke is apparently an egomaniac who only came to bask in his reflected glory, rather than address a potential customer, for me, is trivial.   If he sells a product I want, I'll buy it for the right price. His personal flaws don't factor into it, and neither would percieved celebrity, real or otherwise.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
