Title: Does this product exist?
Post by: jrients on October 03, 2006, 01:02:07 PM
I want a Bestiary of Traps, a d20 product chock full of D&D-style deathtraps organized and catlaogued much like a Monster Manual.  That way I can note in my dungeon descriptions "30' spiked pit" and simply reference back to the Bestiary for the stats.

You mean like grimtooths's? Or something containing simple traps as well?

I was thinking of Grimtooth's, too.  Albeit, I think Grimtooth avoided giving any specific mechanics, to keep the traps as universal as possible (back in a day when there really weren't all that many RPG systems, if I recall).

Traps & Treachery (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/lltt.html) by FFG?

Something containing the a vast array of traps, with D&D stats.  So I can flip to the Pit entry and see all the mechanics for a basic pit but also over-elaborate grimtooth-style Pit Full of Poison Spikes With Acid At The Bottom And Dogs With Bees In Their Mouths or whatever.

Ah - there's probably something available on pdf, but I don't know of any. Seems like a profitable niche for someone to delve into!

My favorite whacky Grimtoot's trap was the Sodium Statue on the island in the pool...

I couldn't find any such compendium on RPGnow, so maybe there ain't no such animule...

I still think an enterprising d20 publisher could have a solid product there...

There's 2 volumes of Traps and Treachery by Fantasy Flight Games, and the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook has large section on building traps, adapting spells and calculating costs to them. A lot of the Book of Challenges also has lots of really complex traps (the latter 2 are from WotC).

Listen to Sosthenes. He is wise.

Traps & Treachery and the sequel book are my favorite trap collections, following Grimtooth's.

Traps and Treachery is good, but it's a bit light on content. (I have it right here in front of me).  (and IMHO it focuses a bit too much on some very complex traps, rather than just having a bunch of traps arranged by CR).

It should be more like a bestiary- that would be far more useful. I dont think such a product exists.
