This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

DCC: By now I think I enjoy reading the rulebook more than running the game

Quote from: AndrewSFTSN;859533You've got it man, but surely DCC could (or should) be the cool drunken uncle making everyone laugh rather than the embarassing fat guy raiding the buffet at the wedding.

well, for me dcc is sam elliot, making facial hair cool. fat guy raiding the buffet is AD&D 2.5 (player's option). but i love him too. family.

in other news i think that dcc is now my prefered go to d&d family member. as someone noted: if d&d is family and od&d is great-grandfather than dcc is weird uncle with cool stories that hang out around haight ashbury in 60s.

He's also the most fun to hang around with. And yeah, a mix of DCC and other OSR rules are becoming my favourite D&D variant, too, though I include stuff from other games as well.

I am waiting for Lankhmar.

This is so good I've spun it off on a thread of its own.

Quote from: tzunder;859293Now, how do people feel about the funny dice?

You know, when DCC was coming out, I erroneously thought the funny dice were going to ruin its popularity. Quite a stupid thought really, to have so grossly misjudged the love gamers have for weird dice.

Anyways, it's something that I'd consider an inconvenience in any area where such dice are not easily available (for example, South America) EXCEPT for the existence of the amazing "Crawler Companion" app, which has one of the best dice rollers ever.

Not only that, of course, it massively simplifies a whole bunch of stuff for GM reference purposes, especially spells. It has almost everything you need to run the game without having to spend time poring over the book during actual play.
