This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Does anyone create their OTU?

Here's a nice little one-at-a-time generator. Looks like this feller had the same idea to make his own secotr, but about a month back.

Quote from: WerekoalaI've got the reprints here, so I can find it. I think I'm going to cheat JUST a tad and maybe use a program to generate the rest of th worlds - I'll be here all weekend if not. ;)

Unfortunately, the reprints are the second edition text, both the book and CD-ROM.  They don't have the jump route table.

(Coincidentally, they also omit the very important rules from the first edition about pulse vs. beam laser damage and some minor combat rules about ablat armor and a few other things.)
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

Hey, that's nice.

Some guy on CotI made a beautiful Excel sheet that did a whole sector, complete with Scouts data on individual systems that was great.  Worked better than Heaven & Earth or whatever that freeware program was called.

Dammit, now I have to do this.  I'll probably be busy with the d6s through tomorrow morning.

Cool! I'm using the Java program to do the worlds one at a time, because really, rolling the stats isn't the fun part. Trying to make them WORK is the fun part. :)

At least by generating them one at a time, it dosn't feel like cheating QUITE as much. And I DID hand-roll the planet density. ;)

Oh, cool - thanks for finding that Jumproute generator. I may give it a shot. But as dense as many of these places are, they really won't NEEd 'em I dno't think. We'll see.

Edit: I'm using Cosmographer (Profantasy's Space mapping software) to make my Sector/Subsector maps as well. So that's kinda cheating. I'm a bad boy.

Heaven & Earth is the name of the program you're thinking of Werekoala, the one that generates world details.  It will even roll on the DGP random culture charts if you want it too.

Yup, that's it. Its still in my Traveller folder on my desktop, in fact.

I love that program.

Quote from: WerekoalaNote to self: Hand-generating two subsectors takes a LONG time... :)
Sure enough does.  That's why I went straight for the automated subsector generator.  Also, I recalled that the standard 50% density makes for a very crowded map, so I chose "Scattered", which is the Spinward Marches standard of 33%.
QuoteStill not sure how I'm gonna handle trade routes. Draw what looks good, random, or skip 'em?
I took a look at the random table in Book 3 and remembered the crazy spiderwebs I used to generate.  The better approach is to take a look at important planetary systems (high population, high TL, industrial, agricultural, political capitols, etc.) and figure out how best to connect them with the fewest number of lines.  Start with starport type A-to-A wherever possible, then A-to-B where it makes more sense, and so on down the line.  Use the Book 3 table as a guideline, but I don't recommend throwing the dice.

Okay - two subsectors done! I will definitely scale back the density in upcoming subsectors, but for now this is a good dense "core" - stuck in the upper left corner of the sector! Oh well.

Some observations:

78 total worlds - 39 in each subsector (go figure!).
Lots of gas giants.
Lots of planets (of course, at 50% density).
Only a few truly "wierd" planets, most of which I designated Red Zones or research stations. Best example: A balkanized waterworld with a population of hundreds and a tech level of "B". Rapture, anyone? (in fact, named!)
A natural Rift in Subsector B allows for the addition of another interstellar power!
But - their worlds are relatively underdeveloped as opposed to the power from Subsector A.
Two subsectors has enough to keep people quite busy, I'm sure, but I feel compelled to expand. Must. Create. MORE!

On the whole, so far so good. If I can figure out how to post images I'll put the map up if anyone's interested. Or mail it. I'm easy. If you have CC2 that's the format, also saved as a .jpeg image.

Assuming that I did it right, here's a link to my OWN WIKI (WOOT!) with the two subsectors I mapped out tonight.

Nice, Werekoala!

I've done four subsectors, using 50% density.  A bit crowded, but it seems to work well with J-1 ships...great for PCs with a Type A.

I haven't finished all the system details yet (2 1/2 done...wristage!), but I seem to have rolled up quite a few Scout bases, even on worlds with A and B starports.  No X starport worlds yet; most of my rolls have been low.

Hopefully, I'll have the maps finished up tomorrow and posted here.  They're done by hand; I might do them up in Corel later.

Cool, I look forward to it. Need to assign names to mine now (using a random name generator and/or inspiration) and then figure out how to post the text file to the Wiki and we're on the way!

I haven't finished the UWPs yet, but here's the quadrant I've rolled up:

Lots of scout bases here...and not too many E/X spaceport ratings.  The dice were kind of weird.

There is a nice "main" here, though, that allows travel to all four subsectors via J-1.  Very playable.

Well - when I used to do it that way I was a teenager and a tad obsessive-compulsive. I'd buy circle templates from an art supply store so my dots for planets and circles for amber zones wouldn't look so "squiggly".

Very Cool , Werekoala....you're making me all nostalgic and everything.
