This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Hastur T. FannonI'll see if I can dig out the details, but IIRC one approach is to divide hypothetical aliens into four categories depending on whether the species is considered "Fallen" or not and whether their mythology contains a Christ-figure or not

Wait... you gotta do some follow-up on this, 'cause now you've got me all interested.

As for aliens coming to earth... how alien. I'd laugh my ass off if a bunch of little green men parked their flying saucer on my lawn. If, however, I found out that there were hidden intelligences wrapped up in the "hidden dimensions" hypothesized by string-theory and M-theory... I'd probably be a little wierded out by that.

Can't find anything offhand on vatican.va, but their search engine isn't the best.  Here is a translation of a paper by Msgr. Carrado Balducci, the intro explains his significance

Quote from: ColonelHardissonSure, it was a big movie. It was based on Carl Sagan's novel. I'm a big fan of Sagan. I felt the movie was OK, and had a stunning opening shot, but I preferred the book due to it being more in-depth and explaining Sagan's vision more closely. Regardless, I think either of them more accurately depict the reaction the world would have to proof of alien intelligence than most books and movies.

Like I said, I haven't read the book, but I am a big fan of "The Dragons of Eden" and "The Demon-Haunted World".

Cosmos is his best work, by far. The book and the TV show. Pale Blue Dot was a worthy attempt to follow up Cosmos, and is a good read.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.
