This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Rules Cyclopedia would have been my choice for a long time.  Now, it's just a printed copy of my own system.  That's nowhere near complete.  But sounds like I'll have a lot of time on my hands, and time is the biggest impediment to getting it done.

Quote from: Chainsaw;1072005One book? AS&SH packs solid AD&Dish rules along with spells, magic items and a full gazetteer for Hyperborea, into one book, so that's what I'd use. Pretty easy choice for me considering that's what I'm running now anyway, heheh.

This, or the 1E DMG.

I'm thinking 1st Ed DMG, The Arcanum or the big Traveller book ...

I was going to say the Rules Cyclopedia, but this one is a great answer as well. Now I'm not sure which one to take.

I'm pretty much responsible for the S&W WB rules.
Amber Diceless Player since 1993
OD&D Player since 1975

Spawn of Fashan or FATAL, of course!

Non-joke option, what about HERO or GURPS basic set 3rd edition? You can make whatever game you want with HERO and GURPS is great for gritty fantasy and pulp stuff with just the main book. Most likely I'd probably just end up taking Advanced Labyrinth Lord because it's pretty much how I play AD&D now.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Amber would turn the desert island into "Lord of the Flies".

Now on Crowdfundr: "SOLO MARTIAL BLUES" is a single-player martial arts TTRPG at https://fnd.us/solo-martial-blues?ref=sh_dCLT6b

Probably either Savage Worlds Adventure Edition or Hero System Fifth Edition, Revised.

Ignoring the idea of collating a PDF to create a single book, and relying on stuff actually published...

Good choices for me would be:

Burning Wheel Gold (really this is all you need to run that game)
The Traveller Book (as mentioned before - I would have to print the PDF...)
Rules Cyclopedia (I've never owned this before, but it is a complete D&D in one book)
RuneQuest 1st ed (oh, well, I'll have to invent my own cults - ok, maybe 2nd ed and I'll try and remember the bits I prefer from 1e, then I do have better sample cult descriptions)
Empire of the Petal Throne (the Different Worlds print at least has a map of Jakalla)

More likely it would turn the island into Miranda, the Pax planet from Firefly.

What would the point be? You would have nobody to play with.

I guess in that situation I could do with GURPS and HERO. It's complex enough that it might be fun to build characters I might use in a game...after I'm rescued.

nope

Probably either GURPS 3rd (since 4th Basic Set is two books) or Hero 5th. I briefly thought of Heroquest 2e for its flexibility but quickly discarded that thought, as the game is simple enough to recall from memory anyway.

Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Usually, I would pick 0E/S&W Whitebox.

But on an odd day, I might even go for something like Shadow of the Demon Lord.

The other voices in my head (which I assume will follow after a few weeks of loneliness) will work out perfectly for most games.
