This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Deadland Resources

I havent run this little gem for over 3 years, and Googling the old websites I used to visit have found of them are either dead, not updated or full of even deader links.

So what I am really asking for is links to resources that would be suitable for the game. The kind of stuff I guess Im looking for is adventures, maps, music, background goodies. And it neednt be just Deadlands material. Period horror from CoC is fine, as is just plain regular cowboys and indians information.

Cheers.

(I need to update my sig then.)

One little hint: Wikipedia has entries for every year of the christian calendar, which highlight what happened that year in very brief, who died, and even what sort of music was popular (both classical/opera and "popular music").

So I'd recommend that whatever year you run, check out the wikipedia entry for that year; it'll be full of little details you can pop into your game to add realism to the game.

Which version? Classic, D20 or Deadlands- Reloaded?

(I fear the product split basically destroyed that product line)

If you have a specific interest you can try that question at these forums where you may get the most possible answers: http://www.peginc.com/forum/index.php?c=3

but at least classic and reloaded are relatively compatible, being of similar rulesets.

Thanks Pundit, it worked rather well, and not just for Deadlands, but other historical games.

I'd agree that's the most interesting version, although in my case it just couldn't manage a extended length campaign of the type I favor.

In addition to the link I provided (people there should be able to point you towards some addition game resources), here's another that I made extensive use of: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/rrhtml/rrmap.html

Not being a GURPs or D20 man I stuck with the original, which in a bastardised form became the basis for the Savage Worlds system.

Being an Ebay whore I have managed to unearth most of the supplements, adventures and boxed sets which reveal most of the metaplot so I wont have to do much writing to get the campaign running.

I too love Classic Deadlands. I recently returned to my 3 year long campaign that took the PCs through all the published adventures and dime novels in the weird west (with the exception of Canyon of Doom) and through the Devils Tower Trilogy deposited them in Hell on Earth. Its proving to be a blast.

The PCs are currently slogging through the sewers of Denver as they avoid automatons and black hat patrols in the Air Force One is Down! adventure. Awesome.

I'd be interested in any resources you pull up. If you could post a few of them it would be marvelous.

On the basis that I have all the classic material, how relevant and important are the D20 books and the Gurps version to material/adventures and background?

Im curious as to also whether anyone actually played the D20 or GURPs verions anyhow.

I don't think one needs to worry about the D20/GURPS version at all. With respect to the background, the newer Salvage Worlds version have some use depending upon the starting point and planned end point if any (in the timeline) for the campaign.

I've run it a whole lot...I love that game and will be playing it over the summer, it looks like.

mrlost, did you run the Werewolf: The Wild West crossover series of dime novels?  I always wanted to but never did.
