This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"D&Djr." or D&D/LEGOs

Inspired by TonyLB's thread...

Could a joint production between Hasbro/WotC and the LEGOs people at a "Dungeons & Dragons Jr"  work /  One that emphasized LEGO version of iconic D&D monsters and Heroes - yet still had something close to the D20 core game mechanic?

At the store we've had things near the Holiday season like "CLUE Jr." and MONOPOLY Jr."  Normally tho  toy store like TOYS 'R Us and KAy-Bee Toy & Hobby have more of that kind of thing.  Many of our customers bought HEROSCAPE as a way of getting their younger kids playing with miniatures and rules so they could eventually all play D&D together.

Yeah - we DO have some families locally that try to RPGs with the family or "grow"/teach new players into the group.

Again....Do you guys think something like the above idea could work?

I posted a link to Brik Wars in the other thread.  It's been around for a long-time now and they've got quite a healthy fan community.

Check out the site - they have galleries, videos, rules (html + pdf), supplements, desktop graphics, and links to all sorts of lego brick stuff on the web.

Here's something else for you Ed.

Dude, I think it's a fantastic idea, and I can tell ya if it became a reality my son would have every set for it they made, and daddy might even borrow it for game sessions ;)

I'd jump on the idea in a heartbeat, if the dang legos weren't so expensive.

I've been looking into what it would take to get enough light grey, dark grey and black blocks to actually build little dungeon sections, in the manner of Dwarven Forge ... but it looks like Dwarven Forge would actually be cheaper, square-inch for square-inch.  Yikes!

And mini-fig costs are gonna kill me.  Ye Gods.  I really want enough green-faced troll minifigs to pull off a decent orcish horde, but they cost an arm and a lego.

So there's a wierd reverse economy going on here ... or perhaps it's normal economy:  You have to pay more for legos than you do for specialized figures and maps, because they're so much cooler.

I've been trying to replicate the building-bricks-based dungeon described in the old Judges Guild module "Temple of Ra Accursed by Set", which the author and his son put together in '79 or so using a "Brix Blox" set from Sears that seems like a Lego-clone. My family has a big sack o' Legos, but I was surprised by how fast we ran out of the basic 2x4 rectangles that the dungeon is built out of. Even the most basic sets sold in stores have lots of fiddly pieces that aren't suitable for wall-building, so I wound up going to the Lego online store and buying rectangles for 15 cents a brick. Since the original authors say it was possible to build their setup using the 1,000 "Brix Blocks" set, I dropped a fair amount of cash on these legos.

I'm definitely interested in Brik Wars and Mechaton. On a similar note, does anyone have experience with "Fuzzy Heroes" from Inner City Games?

Ha! I just snorted. :D

Okay:  I just ordered the following from Lego, in pieces:

30 skeletons
10 "Death knights" (all black bodies, skeleton heads)
20 suits of armor

With tax and shipping, that came out to about $40.  I'm heading over to Bricklink to pick up an assortment of weaponry.  So long as people are forgiving about the prospect of imagining skeletons to represent things other than ... well ... skeletons, I think I will have a big enough horde for any purpose.

Here's an idea (and I'm certainly not claiming it is necessarily a good one, like other ideas I have), could one buy the lego in bulk and then package it for gaming, in this case specifically D&D, purposes and resell?

How cool would that be? You could use all those special pieces, even re-engineer some if you needed, to get the figure just right.

Now some bright person is going to send me a link to someone who does just this. I will then crawl back into my snark shell for the day...

Hey, if I saw a link to do this, I would be all over it like ugly on an ape.  Doing all the searching myself is a hassle.

I got pulled into Bricklink, and came out many dollars lighter in the wallet.  They have little mini-figure scale books that open and close, and which have spooky arcane markings on the outside.  They have mini-figure scale rats.

I never knew how much my life was missing lego rats before today.

I will be expunging this post on the off chance that my son finds out such things exist and where I keep the money.

Tony, you could get some decal paper and start customizing those figures too.
