This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am aware that the module has some severe problems due to it being based on prototype information that changed by the time the module was out.

But heres one that just ran into in yesterdays session.

Mondath as written is a liiiithe wonky...

Heres the rundown.
Shes AC 16(chain mail), 44 HP (8d8+8) and is a level 5 spellcaster... Wisdom and loaded with clerical spells.
So right off shes got 3 more HD than a level 5.
But on top of this... She has multiattack and is wielding a halberd - that does bludgeoning damage????

And shes only CR2?

Best I can figure is shes either really a dual class Cleric/Fighter level 5 each. Meaning she is short 2 HD and 2 HP.

Or

She is a level 8 warpriest - which though would not get her more than 4 multiattacks but would allow a halberd. In which case shes missing the spells and lots a level 8 would have.

The warpriest seems the more viable explanation. And the lact of the spells could be explained that she used them up during the raid and has not yet recovered them for some reason.

I bumped up her CR and awarded the group extra EXP for mostly surviving her. She took down the groups level 4 Dragonborn Sorcerer in one round and he would have been finished off if the Human Paladin had not done a leaping dive save that diverted her rage. She held the Sorcerer first and then next round scored two criticals with the halberd. The Sorcerer saved the group actually by accident as otherwise she would have held him and obliterated the groups Dwarf Wizard. This while Kobolds were pelting them with sling stones. Wizard still nearly went down due to the kobolds group advantage. Great fight!

Anyone else have ideas on Mondath?

In 5e, NPCs don't work the same as PCs, so don't look for a direct translation.

CR2 means she is a challenge for a party of four to six 2nd level PCs. That seems about right from my experiences, especially if she is by herself.

If she has minions then the existing XP guidelines accommodate this pretty handily by multiplying the XP cost for the purpose of gauging the encounter difficulty. Note that the PCs don't get the multiplied XP though.

Which kind of suggests she was well statted.
