This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;538158I think one of the rules of designing a rogue is that they should have a chance of doing huge damage on a surprise attack, if they initiate combat, etc; but in the rest of the fight, the rogue can't end up being better at combat than the fighter.

RPGPundit

Sounds right. They should be spike damage characters in certain circumstances much like Wizards.
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

I was just saying the exact same thing yesterday talking with Bill (the other half of bedrock games). The great thing about this approach is it focuses in the set up of a fight (which tendsto be more non combat exploration and rp focused). So the rogue who plans ahead gets that large damage bonus. For me this simulates the rogue as a cut throat sneak the best (a real backstabber). To me the classic rogue is more of an out of combat character (stealing, sneaking, detecting traps, backstabbing and cutting deals with shady personalities).

When I picture a D&D thief in my head, I see Malak:

But then I start thinking about her.... :D

Conan was a dummy!:D

+1 hottie.

I'm with Drohan, exactly.  Malak is also one of the people I immediately think of when I hear "thief".

and Olivia d'Abo was a major part of my developmental years ;)

He is a good example for sure. And yes she was/is a "hottie". Hence why I said Conan was a dummy.;)

...but she is also as thick as 3 short planks of wood and nearly as good an actor.

I'm with Conan. Valeria every time...

I am not so sure. A high damage sneak attack should be an option maybe the default option for a rogue but I would also want to be able to swap it out.

I can see a con man for example dropping the backstab 'feat' for something else.

I can also imagine other subclasses say a fighter based assasin having access to the same ability.

If Assassin is being implemented as its own basic class, I would expect that kind of thing to go to it rather than the Rogue class.

Why choose between Valeria and Princess Jehnna? You're Conan! Fuck 'em both!

A) Princess Jehanna is so whiney .... OMG! I would have to kill her proabably before I shagged her ... hmmm that might work.

B) Valeria would chop your cock off when you were asleep if she found out

The main issue with that movie was that Valeria was DEAD, which is why Conan went along with (Sarah Douglas)' plot, because it was supposed to provide magic that would bring Valeria to life.
Failing that, I'd do Olivia d'Abo in a heartbeat.  :D
