Wonder if D&D Heroscape repackaged with some cards and more extensive rulebooks, will officially become 5E D&D in a few years.
(ie. Similar to Warhammer FRP 3rd edition.)

They're even doing expansion packs for D&D Heroscape.
Heroscape is fun. I'd hate to see it repackaged as D&D. I like it just the way it is.
The D&D master set doesn't really sound like anything besides another master set to me, like the marvel one, or the Marro swarm thingy; so no I don't see it as the beginnings of 5e. I see it as an attempt to create cross over sales between the two product lines.
Who knows what the future holds, though. That said, I don't see something as simple as Heroscape supporting the supplement treadmill.
One advantage to having a game in a semi-boardgame + miniatures format is that it is a lot harder to pirate, compared to the AD&D/D&D books + modules.

Dude. Some people really don't know what they're talking about.

Or a totally clueless reporter or writer.

Nope. The quote's from Jeremy Stomberg, an actual FFG guy.
QuoteStomberg was optimistic about how the game will be received by existing WHFRP fans and was quick to point out what makes 3rd Edition unique: “We had a strong negative reaction at first, and then as people have come here and have seen it and talked to us and talked to Jay, they’ve gone back to the boards and said, ‘Wow, this is really cool.'
"We’re making it more of a storytelling thing. We’re bringing RPGs back to telling a story and not just being miniatures on a board. We have tons of games that have miniatures on boards. What this is is telling stories, which is how RPGs began.”
Unless of course the reporter actually completely sucks at syntax, but that sounds too much like trying to blame the media, the messenger, instead of the guy who provided the message, IMO. No, no. That's Stomberg who said that.
I get a really bad vibe out of quotes like this, personally.

Who, I hasten to add, is a decent guy in most respects. RPGs are not his big geek thing; it's what pays the bills and sometimes overlaps with those primary interests, but the thing that gets him to geek out is not TRPGs. I don't expect him to get it right; that's the responsibilities of his boss, so turn the bile that way (after nailing GWHQ, who's truly responsible for this crap).
This hypothesis sounds completely and utterly plausible.
The most interesting part? In my mind, that might be the soundest decision they could make, depending upon how they go about it.

Smart dig against 4e. Doubly smart since their license with GW says "no minis" so they make a WFRPG with no minis.
QuoteThe Master Set will come with 50 terrain pieces and 10 figures and is designed for two players (most Heroscape Master Sets are for four players)
10 minis? 2 players? Bitches are being stupidly cheap.
WotC will watch how well FFG does with WFRP 3e and Hasbro will watch how well D&D Heroscape does. The result of those two products will definitely have an effect on 5e.
How much of an effect won't be known until we see 5e...in 2012.
Well considering Heroscape is basically Heroquest with an emphasis on large scale fights, it was already a quasi RPG in the first place...
