It looks to be serious enough, though they haven't interviewed me yet.

Could someone share the link on RPGnet, in the D&D forum?

didn't see it on the first two pages.  you'll just have to go in there yourself to poke around more, champ.

Can't. I'm banned from RPGnet. Hence asking someone willing to share the link to do so, since I suspect some people over there don't even know of the existence of the kickstarter.

clear your cookies and go in unregistered.

i had an old second account, (testing something for a friend at the time, no sockpuppeting) but it's another way as well, since my original is banned too.

Sure I can look at RPGnet. Look. You seem to be under the impression that I'm asking IF there is a thread that talks about it. No. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking for someone with an account to POST a new thread about the kickstarter with a link to it so people who are fans of the game there can be aware of its existence.

That's what I'm asking. So if anyone who isn't banned has an account over at RPGnet and is willing to post a thread about this, please do so. Thanks.

It's in the general Kickstarter thread... hmm, that's not enough.

Very informative podcast:

http://thetome.podbean.com/2012/09/03/dungeons-and-dragons-a-documentary-tome-202/

These guys are tv/movie pros.  I hope they can get an unmodified version of their film out there.  Wotc seems eager to exec produce them.

It would be unfortunate if it just turned out to be a propaganda piece.

 FFS 1. while i had fun with d&d in the day, i have no need to throw money at a documentary for it, nor 2.  promote it for someone else.  make your own alt/sock if it means that much to you :boohoo:

It will be, if people keep discussing it. HINT, HINT.

(Although, $80k in five days is a big ask)

Yeah, i got that.

Why in heavens name would i stump up cash to fund a documentary of a game i play?

Because you may think it would be cool if it got made?

Because you want it and you can get a copy by helping to fund it?

Because you like one or more of the rewards?

Because it's a better use of money than hookers and blow?

etc...

For me, this is something I'd buy if I saw in the store so there's no harm in "pre-buying" since I lose nothing if it doesn't get made and I spend money I was going to spend anyway if it does.

I have yet to see a good RPg documentary. All of them seem to focus on the fringe or most extreme elements of the hobby, and while entertaining, I wouldn't mind someone doing a documentary about normal, well-adjusted gamers instead of just a "look how geeky these weirdoes are" expose like Uber Goober.

Then this is your best chance, these guys are real filmmaking pros as well as gamers and they are not out to shame gamers.  They are celebrating the original rpg and the effect it has had on modern life as well as the games interesting and troubled history.  Check out the clips and listen to the podcast interview for more info.

Cheers

Did you see The Dungeons & Dragons Experience (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c8vhub_vMI) by Spiro Lee?

I'd pay hard cash for a DVD of this movie. Alas, it's OOP.

I had dinner with them at GenCon this year, and I have to agree, these guys seem to have the right attitude and the skills to get this done. They're much more concerned about getting an accurate history reflected in their interviews than about sensationalism. I was happy to kick in a few bucks to their cause.

You and a few others (including me). It is just about to ding, only a few 1.35k away.  It seems that the Wotc, Paizo, and Monte mentions and ensuing bumps were all perfectly spaced to result in maximim bumpage.  Either very well done, or fate played its hand.

There is a crappy low quality upload to Youtube, but yes, a nicer version would be welcome.  Is it on Amazon?

I don't think so, but it was about 4 years ago that I watched maybe 6 of them in a row...damned if I can recall all their names. I'll have to try and hunt that one down.

Well, they made it :)

I wonder if they'll try for a stretch goal?

It's not available anymore. There was a DVD edition that the director or producer sold himself, without distribution, but AFAIR he found that it was too much work.

I'd love to get my hand on a copy of it because so far it is the best portrayal of the RPG scene and method of play.

But I am also looking forward to the new Kickstarter!

My idea for a stretch goal: contact Spiro Lee and sublicense "The D&D Experience" to include it as a bonus in the DVD edition...

Well, if for example the documentary was a well-done academic piece of historical interest, revealing something new about the game or its creation...

Speaking about this, the guys working on the documentary met Jon Peterson at GenCon and he is going to be an advisor on the project apparently. He's the guy that wrote that very interesting book: Playing at the World. (http://www.amazon.com/Playing-at-World-Jon-Peterson/dp/0615642047) See also the namesake blog. This does seem more like the former than the latter. Though more than that, it seems like a panoramic look at the history of the game.
