Wonder how "finalized" the D&D Next ruleset is.

Didn't they basically do the same with 4E?

I remember they had those preview books they were selling.

I certainly hope the window of opportunity for idiots like Thopher, et al. to influence the ruleset is closed.

It seems like most of the worst D&D players have decided that Next isn't going to be the giant pile of wank that would cater to their particular brand of stupid and have mostly fucked off.

This is good news.

EDIT: For example the latest next thread on TBP is just fucking delicious.

You mean like Sage Genesis, who makes it a point to go into every single thread about Next and say how much it doesn't appeal to him?  What's he going to do when Next becomes official, and you can no longer do that because it would be threadcapping edition war crap?

Oh, nevermind.  As long as Kai is a mod, the rules don't apply to Next or the players of Next.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Yup. "Edition warring" only happens when someone doesn't like 4e.

You can crap on TSRD&D as much as you want and you can mostly crap on 3e as much as you want so long as you don't like it because it's not like 4e enough (if you don't like it because you think TSRD&D is better then you're a dirty edition warrior and need to be purged).

It's strange. You can say you like X about TSRD&D or Next. But if a 4e player comes along and takes offense to that statement (like 4vengers do with everything) you can't respond or tell them they're wrong. That's edition warring.

We should test that theory.  Take a post you feel bashes TSRD&D, and simply change the edition to 4e, but don't change any other wording, and post that and see what happens.

I did that at one point.

I got warned for "edition warring" for replying to someone and switching the editions.

They said something like "AD&D is a fundamentally flawed and broken game" (like they do EVERY single thread about TSRD&D*), I replied "4e is a fundamentally flawed and broken game" and got told to stop edition warring.

*but remember that's not "threadcrapping"

Not subtle enough.  Need to do it on a different date, and different thread, from the originating post.

Knock yourself out. I still read TBP from time to time but I'm not interested in stirring up shit there any more than I'm interested in posting there.

A better test would be to post something bashing 4e, then, (presumabl after you've been banned) have someone else post the exact same thing, word for word, except another edition.
