Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). [DCC/Other] Replacement for Zocchi Dice

I've mentioned before that I've done a dice map/drop die chart called the Perverse Polymorpher that can be used in place of Zocchi dice. The idea is: roll a normal die on the printed chart, look where it lands, that tells you what your Zocchi die result should be. I get a couple hits from the Goodman Games forums from people looking for this as a replacement for Zocchi dice.

Problem is, it might be a little difficult to use. You basically have a bunch of rings of numbers, divided into sectors The actual result on the die rolled is an index number, telling you which number to use in the section where the die landed.

So, I came up with what might be a better version: Perverse Polymorpher 2.0 (rectilinear/grid version.) It works like the drop die charts in Vornheim: drop the die, look up its vertical or horizontal position to find the number rolled. It doesn't do as many kinds of dice as the old one will do, but it will do the d3, d5, d7, d14, d16, d24, and d30, which is what people are looking for.

I will probably be tweaking the appearance some more, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

Hey, at least it's free.

(OK, actually, I guess it may cost you upwards of 1 to 3 cents for paper and toner.)

Zocchi dice totally work for me and totally remind me of the excitement I had as a lad hunting for my first polyhedrals so... I have no problem with them really, quite the contrary, actually! :)

kregmosier

me either, since I already owned a set.
I just thought it might be be nicer to offer words of encouragement and appreciation
instead of mincing around and whining about the dice in yet another thread... ;)

You know, you're right.

Well done, talysman. It's cool you came up with this dice mat.

I think needing Zocchi dice (or this workaround) is a bad idea for DCC. Of course, if Goodman isn't really concerned about how many actually play his game, I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks! And yes, I don't mean this as some kind of condemnation of Zocchi dice. It's just a potential replacement for them if they are, for some reason, inaccessible. RPGPundit mentioned an example elsewhere of people in countries where Zocchi dice weren't available.

Possibly. I actually try to restrict the dice I use to two (d20 and d6.) And I keep the number of dice rolled at once low. But other people like more dice or more die types, so I can't fault DCC for aiming at a particular audience.
