This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Statistical data at RPGs

Does anyone know where you can find statistical data on pen & paper RPGs, specifically data on demographics, the number of people who play RPGs, etc.? Any links would be helpful. Thanks.

Most of that is going to be proprietary data and I doubt the gaming companies will give it up easily. You might be able to get secondary statistical data from conventions/large gaming shops, but that is likely also protected data.

You may be able to find something on //www.gamingreport.com.

I know WotC did something several years ago and last year a university carried out a study on gamers and gamer habits. Other than that . . . I've got nothing.

Johnny, what quality and quantity of data are you looking for, and what will you use it for?  The data needed for, say, a high-school term paper and a marketing study are not exactly the same.  It would help if you defined what you need, and how detailed you need it to be.

I'm looking for general information. I don't need the data to defend a thesis. It is more for personal interest than anything else.
