It's Blackmoor Week - which ends on October 1st with Dave Arneson Game day!
In general people are encouraged to learn more about the inventor of our hobby (contentious to some perhaps) and get something "old school" to the table.
Personally I encourage folks to check out the Secrets of Blackmoor documentary https://www.secretsofblackmoor.com/
Maybe swing by https://blackmoor.mystara.net/ or try and find a copy of Champions of ZED – a really cool game based on extensive research that attempted to synergize the vision and work of both Arneson and Gygax.
For my bit, each year for Blackmoor Week I run our only site-wide sale. Everything on the Compose Dream Games RPG Marketplace (https://composedreamgames.com/marketplace) is 20% off. Just use coupon code "Arneson" on the shopping cart page.
Of special note, we just added POD copies of all 43 of the Advanced Adventures line of modules by Expeditious Retreat Press, so if you are looking to run an OSR game consider picking one up.
What are you doing for Dave Arneson Game Day? I'll be running games and manning a booth at SHUX con in Vancouver.
Any particular historic tidbit you've found or other thoughts?
Blackmoor Week? Dave Arneson? Dice must be rolled!!!

Indeed they must. Will the players know what they are rolling for?

Yes. For the legend and love of gaming. A Dragon will most likely be involved.
On the 1st my group will be playing in my D&D 5th edition so maybe I will bring it up and toast him in our own way.

Sounds like a cult group.

Sounds like a cult group.
That seems like a stretch. It's mostly an excuse to get together and roll some dice. With the added idea that it's nice to appreciate the "original game materials" and acknowledge someone who was a key figure create what we all like to do. In this case someone whose often been overlooked.
Plus you'd need to have more of a "group" for it to be a cult.
Play more games! Have fun creating your own rules and worlds.
Found this info about the Egg of Coot and On Snider's campaign and games rather fascinating http://blackmoormystara.blogspot.com/2022/09/john-sniders-egg-of-coot-campaign.html (http://blackmoormystara.blogspot.com/2022/09/john-sniders-egg-of-coot-campaign.html)
Lots of sci-fi from the get go.
