This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hey everyone,  My name is Josh and I'm an administrator at d6d20.com and swrpga.com.  Our websites is dedicated to providing a place for people to play whatever role playing game they desire.  The SWRPGA is dedicated to Star Wars based adventures, whereas d6d20 is everything but Star Wars.

At d6d20, we're a relatively new community, and are looking to expand our membership. Currently, have a few games active, including: a d20 Modern adventure, D&D based adventures and an adventure set in the Dune universe.

So, if you're looking at joining an adventure or want somewhere to start your own adventure, please check us out.

I'd like to bump this thread, if I may.

What support do you have to facilitate online games that would entice me to not, say, use my own hosted forums where I have complete control?

P.S. I'm not being facetious...I have a PHPBB forum set up with a number of mods to help factilitate online games I hope to one day run. If someone has a better setup I could be enticed to use that instead.

I don't want to speak for Josh, and this doesn't directly answer your question, but...

If you are already running games on your own hosted forums, there may not be a good reason for you to join a site hosted by someone else, with moderators that were chosen by someone else, especially if you're the type of person who likes having complete control over the environment that is hosting your game.  However, there may be GMs out there who don't want to invest the time and money to set up their own forums.  Likewise, there may be players out there who are looking for one site where they can play a variety of games.

Swrpga.com has been successful for years on that model.  It doesn't have a lot of modifications to the stock PHPBB software that I'm aware of (nor does d6d20 have a lot of modifications to the stock fudforum software), but it has a healthy community of gamers.  What both sites do have is a page layout that is easy to read and a forum structure that is easy to navigate.  I'll let Josh talk about the specifics if he wants to.

The goal, as I understand it, is to attract gamers who want to play a diversity of games in a single uncomplicated forum structure.  It's more community oriented than software oriented.
