This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I read about GKG, that is one of the reasons I was asking.  Does their second edition release of D6 eliminate publishing your own game using the original D6 rules/OGL?

No, if you're using the OGL/SRD, the 2E license would not affect you. Not even the idiots over at WotC could stop people from publishing materials for previous editions, so GKG would not be able to stop you from publishing stuff for '1E' anyway. If you're still not sure, use OpenD6, it's pretty much the same thing.

Holy crap.  I had no knowledge of this 2E version.

Now that I've had some time to think I'm not so sure about it.

We can get the current rules for free.  Also, I'm more impressed with games like Mini-Six Bare Bones.

The fact that 2E will have three chapters in the book for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Superheroes is a good thing.  That might be worth getting it.

Honestly, I'll wait and see.  As far as I know the kickstarter campaign hasn't even launched yet.
I'm glad for you if you like the top selling game of the genre.  Me, I like the road less travelled, and will be the player asking we try a game you've never heard of.

The Kickstarter ran last summer, but is still accepting late pledges. It looks like the PDF of the core rulebook will be in late February or March.

Yay!

Bat, Armchair General, thanks for the heads up.  You guys made my day.

Glad to be of help! And as Armchair Gamer said, the pdfs should be released shortly, there was an update just a couple of days ago. I really like Minis Six and Mythic d6 and the latter helped inspire this edition. Jerry Grayson knocks out some great games, his version of Atlantis: the Second Age (Bard Games' The Arcanum) has a lot of really great concepts and is far superior to the version before it.

IANAL but...

No, they can publish their 2e under whatever license they wish, provided they aren't using the text from the OpenD6 system.

Now, this doesn't stop them from trying to use lawfare...

IMHO, you should be fine as long as you reference the OGL'ed SRD somebody provided the link above. Furthermore, the OpenD6 Fantasy, Adventure & Space books are ALL under the OGL, so material from them is also available for you to use. (They are also still available for free in the internet)

Also, rules/mechanics CAN'T be copyrighted, their expression might be.

Well that was an easy back for me.

Thanks to everyone for the additional insight.  This gives me something to think about.

Thought, "This sounds cool!"  Clicked on the link to back it.  Found I had already backed it.  LOL!

I would say, 'Steady on, old chap!', yet I have done that a time or three myself.
