Title: d20 Mecha
Post by: dsivis on September 13, 2006, 01:42:43 AM
I've noticed there's a shite-load of d20 mecha products. Makes sense; most geeky people are fond of giant constructs and see translating that to the best-known RPG system logical.

The problem lies for one with little budget and less patience. So...who has had good/bad experiences with the various d20 mecha products (Mecha Compendium, Dragonmech, Doom Striders, etc)? What were they? Which book(s) would you recommend and why?

Thanks for your time guys. :D

Dragonmech is a D&D supplement, really. But it's pretty cool.

What I would use (and what I have used) is D20 Modern and D20 Future together. We used it for a sort of post apocalyptic world, and there were other elements from d20 Future we used in there as well (energy weapon sidearms, cybernetics).

At one point, GOO put their D20 Mecha stuff in an SRD style document on their site, and someone gussied it up and put it in PDF format. I may still have that sitting on my hard drive at home.

No particular opinions or preferences, as Mecha's not my bag. I do like Iron Man / Knight Sabers scale stuff, and Blood & Circuits for D20 Modern fills the bill for me there.

I forgot there was all that free material out there.
PS: Ceasar Slaad has the best icon ever.

Props go to Claudio Pozas, who drew and colored it for me. I just told him I wanted a roman-themed Slaad with a laurel, and he added the Toga and the "thumbs down" thing. I love it!

Second set of links on this page:

http://www.guardiansorder.com/games/d20/srd/

BTW For my next mecha game I'm looking at borrowing from Mecha Crusade, the d20 Modern minigame from Polyhedron.

That link provided seems to lead nowhere at all.  Does anyone else no another place to get the SRD for d20 Mecha?

Probably just try it again. I did it twice and it worked both times. The Wayback Machine can get really busy (understandably) and has trouble opening pages, files, etc. at times.

i'll have to try at another time of day, then.  i keep getting timeouts, or "invalid directory" or other failures, for both the all-chapters DL and the individual chapters.  :(

Thanks for the help!

I am unfortunately experiencing a problem with viewing the files.

I can download them all (indivdually or in the package) just fine, but when I try to extract the files or view them it tells me "The archive is either an unknown format, or damaged".  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know; I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Maph.

I've got the BESM and d20 Mecha files on my computer at home. If you want a copy in Word format, send me an email address via PM and I'll shoot them out to you.

I kind of like DragonMech.

It' a pretty cool setting idea just on the edge of Gonzo. Some new core classes and a few prestige classes.

Giant mechs are treated like creatures (with new, even higher size catagories. After Collossal VI  for the Citymechs) and has simply designed rules to help with the scale. Your average dudes will not be combating citymechs directly, they're more like dungeons to them, but your teams of collossal sized mechs may be able to do it:)

If I ever actually ran a D&D campaign...it would probably be DragonMech (or Ptolus).
