This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Current Top 10 RPGs of The RPG Site

I’ve seen the Purple Site and a few other do this time to time—have folks rank their Top 10 favorite RPGs as of right now. It gives a pretty good indicator of what the New Hotness is in some cases; in others, what folks skew towards on a certain site.

I have no idea how this would turn out for us, but people are list-crazy nowadays. So why don’t we give it a shot? Hell, I think I could list 20 favorites, but 10 will have to do for now (although I know I’m going to leave something out and be really mad later).

How it works: Rank your favorite RPGs right now from 1-10. A #1 ranking is worth 10 points, a #10 worth 1. Whenever the hell we feel like it, we tally it up and see what we have.

EDIT:  This is too tough.  Let's say you can also name 3 Honorable Mentions, for 1/2 point each.

So there we are. Let this completely meaningless, soon-to-be argument-prone exercise begin!

(Yeah, yeah, I’ll put mine up in just a bit. I’m at work and need time to think).

Christmas Ape

Alright...

1) Nemesis/Other uses of the ORE engine
2) BRP Call of Cthulhu
3) Cyberpunk 2020
4) Mekton Zeta Plus
5) FATE (waiting on the Dresden files "gritty" 3.0 version)
6) Werewolf: the Apocalypse
7) nWoD (as a mortals game)
8) d6 (which I have never played, but hear so much awesome about)
9) Ex Machina (for IOSHI, the most interesting and obfuscated non-setting I've ever seen - it would be rated higher if the spine of the book didn't stare at me accusingly until I break down and scream "What do I DO with you?!?!" at it)
10) RIFTS (for making a room full of engaged, employed, educated adults crack dirty jokes and blast NPCs with abandon like we were 13 again).

Honorable Mentions: AFMBE, Legend of the Five Rings, all versions of D&D.

I wanted to rate D&D higher, I really did. But I have an interesting relationship with the Most Popular Game of All Time - I love the play. I really do. Dungeons, dragons, gnolls, elves, Black Tentacles and Bigby's Fondlings and orbs of annihilation. I love pseudo-medieval euro-centric monster-stomp treasure-hunt adventure gaming - but it's never come with a system I've been happy with for more than about four sessions. They all get points for bringing D&D to me, but sometimes I wish D&D didn't use D&D's rules.

EDIT: I had to change the list around - I missed Mekton Zeta. So, ummm..that's the final.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.
