This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Nazzadi are a Zentradi rip off from Robotech. Definitely, lazy worldbuilding from that point of view, which I still think is a feature for the RPG as much as a bug.

They have no inspiration from Drow, which arose from fans simply assuming such based on their skin colour I guess.

Quote from: CRKrueger;856048EDIT: Although, and maybe Skywalker can check me on this one, a lot of the "Nazzadi=Drow" debate was originally based on them being a ripoff of Drow without any human racial "problematic" aspect to it.  In other words, lazy worldbulding, not racist worldbuilding, that part came later.

Aside from physically, the Nazzadi don't culturally resemble the drow (as far I know them). Even physically the primary resemblance is their skin color. If they're a rip off of anything its the Zentradi, possibly the Klingons to some extent as an artificially created "Warrior race".

If  that is lazy world building is a matter of taste. Everything is inspired (ripped off) from something and they are, IMO, significantly different from their possible sources to stand on their own as much as anything else in the game. All I can say I like them and I can't get on a high horse about yoinking things from different sources and putting a different spin on them.

Applying the "Drow problem" seems even odder as the Nazzadi are not innately evil, nor strictly antagonistic. They're some of humanity's greatest allies, have been accepted into human society and are largely regarded as physically and aesthetically pleasing (that the Migo in their spotty understanding of humanity intended their "unnatural" skin color and pronounced canines to be disturbing notwithstanding). There is some racial strife but given the meeting between the races and human nature that's to be expected. They're as varied as humans with the good and bad the entails (including having unattractive members of the race in spite of the stereotype).

Drow is a culture mindset that separates them from the rest of the dark elves.  A culture of racism, sexism, oppression, breaking down families, blood sacrifices, allying with demons, and of course being under the cruel thumb of Lolth.  Did I mention this was a evil culture?

Sorry, but that is no where near Cthulhutech.  The Nazzida were created by the Migo to do evil, but once the truth was known the Nazzida allied with the human race.  They did this dispite knowing that the Migo has the better chance of victory.  People this sounds like a race of beings with powerful ethics, honor, and the sense of doing what is right over what is easy.  This isn't drow at all because drows are shit.  Nazzidas culture just fucking rules in spite of the fact it is made up by alien beings.

Its amusing (ironic?) that some of the critics seem to have judged the Nazzadi based on their appearance and an, at best, cursory examination biased by stereotypes. Of course they get same defense everyone else does: they're imaginary. But still...

I found Bailywolf to be one of RPG.net's best sources of ideas. Baily would be a great addition to theRPGsite.

I am good with Bailywolf's thoughts on the Zentradi, I mean Nazzadi.

I always forget Drow have black skin because we always played them akin to Warhammer Dark Elves, and we always made them albino considered they lived underground.

BTW, how are the new combat rules?

Maybe it will ease the surprise of my Nazzadi PCs with their new chromatic skin when I tell them that "black" humans have stopped giving them dirty looks. :D

Bailywolf has great ideas. Bailywolf will never come to the RPG.site because he's fully onboard with SJW rhetoric. He enjoys the culture of RPG.net

I still respect him for his ideas, but he's very much on board with call out culture and finding things "offensive" and "Problematic".
1)Don't let anyone's political agenda interfere with your enjoyment of games, regardless of their 'side'.

2) Don't forget to talk about things you enjoy. Don't get mired in constant negativity.

Eh, aside from "engineered warrior race that does a heel face turn" the Nazzadi aren't really even that much like the Zentradi (they aren't segregated by race, they have a full "culture" including art and music though it faked and shallow thanks to Migo lack of knowledge and interest when creating it and aren't paralyzed by J-pop). I might be blinded by my like for them.

That said, Bailywolf's idea isn't horrible. Its a bit odd for the Migo as the Nazzadi would primarily be fighting in mecha and PA against the human raxe so their chameleon ability wouldn't be of that much use compared to engineering it. (I imagine even for them it would be more difficult than slight tweaks done to the human genome demonstrated in the Nazzadi currently). Still its an interesting idea for a race. Not something I'd use for Cthullutech but opinions and assholes are universal traits. :)

From what I recall of Baileywolf. He has good ideas but I think he'd ragequit this forum pretty quickly.

What would be awesome is for someone to directly quote the "Right Way to Express It" and then ask the question.  It's not like they could stick you for that, the mod said right there "this is the way to express that".

That's actually a really nice idea. Pity I didn't think of it myself. ;)

Well, I had my Nazzadi players look over the 2ed discussion thread (or at least the relevant posts) and they're not happy at the revision suggestions. PM'ed Martian_bob to see if he could let me know what's fan wanking and what might actually be taken into the upcoming edition. Its funny how some of the stuff being suggested...is already part of the Nazzadi. Perhaps a bit different but its there. Its like some of them never read the material on the race.

Quote from: Nexus;855970... That's a small "tweak"? Do they want them to be "more" human by adding in transgenderism or intersex/third sex or less human by making them two legged chameleons/predators?...

Quote from: Orphan81;856000Honestly? I think his suggestion is really cool...but that's just me.

Me too! That sounds awesome frankly.

The Nazzadi were engineered from human DNA to be "alien humans", so I see no reason why they wouldn't express the same sexual orientations and desires in the same ratio as baseline humans.

I'm curious, so I'll be looking into this later. Frankly I couldn't give to tinker's damns about all the cultural wailing, since I don't think I've ever run any pre-published game setting according to canon in my... shit, three decades of play? On either side of the table, really.

What I'm more interested in is if they've cleaned up those damned awful, gimmicky poker mechanics (yes, yes... they aren't that hard to figure out. Unless you're trying to interest casual players in the game and you have to spend an hour explaining the most basic rolls in the game...), and, as it sounds, splitting the power differential.

I'm not sure three core books is the way to go with that, personally. Sounds like a little TOO MUCH division of the power levels, complete with a lot of tedious repetition of the basic rules. I got enough of that from White Wolf back in the day, with a side helping from Palladium.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
