This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Alright I've got the new computer hooked up and connected...should have my GCA humming away sometime later today cranking out GURPS characters and NPCs for me again.

Had an idea : transplanting Jack Sparrow from the PotC movies into the TRAVELLER universe  setting.

First: has anybody already adapted him into their RPG already ?

Second:  What would he be like in the TRAVELLER setting ?

Instead of the angle of "magic" or the supernatural - might he have latent Psionic talents ? Or maybe just a VERY unusal crew ?

Also , he wasn't really a "cutthroat" ...he was more of a lovable annoyance of a Pirate.  I never saw him do any real cold-blooded killing in the movies. Of course, they were made by Disney.

Dude, is that a cutout deckplan of an Empress Marava behind you?

That was a dumb statement.  I mean, "Dude, that is an awesome cutout deckplan of an Empress Marava behind you!"

Oh, yeah, your question.  No, I haven't, and was Jack really magically-inclined?  I didn't get that reading off of him.

YES - that IS an Empress Marava deckplan behind me in the picture. Thought you might have noticed that by now  this past week or two. That thing is proudly plastered to a cardboard presentation board - the kind high school kids use for their science fair projects. Its in 25mm scale and SJ games makes them.  Thats the second one I've pieced together.

Danger

All games need a Sparrow-esque rogue to pop in from time to time.  To me, he seemed to be a failed student from Robin Hood's School of Civic Minded Criminals; he did great at all the buckle-swashing bits but never really passed the ethics class.  He isn't evil per se, just mostly selfish.

As far as his own abilities, he certainly has luck on his side as well as an ability to sway people to his way of thinking (but he doesn't neccessarily (sp?) lead them well).

Sparrow in Traveller would be, I think,...well, just like Sparrow in the movies!  Almost right down to the cutlass too.  Except you'd substitute most of the flamboyant pirate garb for something a bit more space-worthy.  His crew seemed to strike the "eccentric in their own ways, but competent," pose as well but with the caveat that they were willing to listen/follow Sparrow's lead.

If Sparrow was in Traveller, I think that if he lived long enough to make it to retirement, he'd be the type to initially franchise his Piratey existence ("come see the one, the only, Sparrow of the Spaceways at ComicCon MM and get his autographed book too!") to make the quick credits, but he'd wind up blowing the money on drink, whores and be last seen heading for the Marches on some wild-ass treasure hunt in the end.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

Well, I channelled Jack Sparrow while playing Captain Henry Morgan, Lt. Governor of Jamaica in a recent Blood Games II game. OTOH, it's entirely possible than Johnny Depp is channelling Henry Morgan when he plays Sparrow... :D
