This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Cool Idea... or the Coolest Idea Ever?

Here's the thread where you post your potentially cool ideas for campaigns you have yet to run, but would like to.

Mine: A RIFTS campaign where the characters are from the SDF-3 (from Robotech).  The SDF-3 disappeared when it jumped to go to the battle of Reflex point, missing in action.
In the campaign I envision, the SDF-3 ends up on earth, but the Earth of RIFTS.  The PCs are part of the REF troops on board (and later, if they wish, RIFTS characters that end up allied to the REF).  They have to act as explorers and soldiers for Admiral Rick Hunter as he tries to save the crew of his ship in this hostile environment, confronting enemies like the Xiticix and the Coalition, trying to figure out whether the mages of Tolkeen, desperate for protection from the Coalition, are really trustworthy, and dealing with supply and maintenance issues in a hostile world with no protoculture and no manufacturing facilities for new mecha, all while trying to face a difficult choice: Does the crew of the SDF-3 try to make a new life for themselves in this devastated world, stay and struggle to do some good... or do they try to find a way home?

Although it might be a cool idea, it´s actually a Rifts sub-genre.
It´s been done pretty often.

Which underlines the coolness, but undermines the "bestest evar" part.

Take GURPS: Wildcards, wherein superhero powers were the result of an alien virus, that either killed or endowed the victims with abilities.

Push back the arrival date of said virus a couple of years, to the very end of WW II.

Make it a global virus, instead of just New York City.

And instead of flat-out killing people, it turns them into zombies. But not just mindless "braineeessss" zombies (although there are plenty of those too), but the "leadership" caste is smarter, faster, and far more ruthless than many people. Oh, and they're not just schlubs who got lucky. We're talking Zombie MacArthur, Zombie FDR, Zombie Churchill and the like.

These zombies, of course, are fighting each other, and the Super-powered human survivors, for control of the planet. So you have MacArthur and his divisions of troops in charge of, say, the Western United States for example. The whole country is divided up into "control zones" with different zombie commanders and their troops, and the rest of the world is in much the same shape.

So, you've got the PCs as Superheroes fighting Zombie Patton and his tank corp, with zombies flying air-cover. A pitched battle against desperate odds, as it were. Also, don't forget the bands of "normal" human survivors, who the virus did not affect. Gotta have innocents around to protect!

Somehow, people think this is over the top.

Mummy space pirates...

You mean like the ruins of an extinct alien civilization being... er... reactivated by the overly curious PCs?

Or something like Bubba-Ho-Tep, where an Earth mummy is transferred between exhibits and somehow wakes up/breaks free?

Or something where space pirates try to steal a mummy or a number of mummies?

Settembrini

I´d suspect it be more along the lines:

"An Azhanti high Lighnting Cruiser filled with [Glow in the dark!] bicorne-on-top-of-whig-wearing  mummified Egyptian freebooters, out there to protect the very fabric ofthe universe from the evil Ultatron-time-travel-Invasion!"

Batteries sold seperately.

EDIT: Here´s the title music, Doc Rotwang style.

So basically Battlestar Galactica, Lorne Greene style.

zzzzzzzzzzz

There's a Rifts book for that.

There's a Rifts book for EVERYTHING.

Also, Traveller and Rifts are two great flavors that should not be mixed evar. Not at my pseudo-walnut veneer, faux-Memphis style IKEA couch table.

Pfffft.  He can bring it.  Maybe we can watch him try to prove we've either one of us ever actually kept a Palladium book.

Last Days of the Ironborn

A fantasy campaign featuring a band of centuries old self-aware automata, the final relics of more sorcerous age. Retaining only fragmentary memories of their past, they now serve as a mercenary company in a nascent civilisation built on the shattered ruins of the old empire. The story will include elements of Eberron's Warforged and Pratchett's Golems, but the primary source of inspiration is the old 2000AD comic strip 'ABC Warriors.'
