This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: S'mon;1081256Pretty sure Alex Macris never did that - in fact Zak S turned on him precisely because he had refused to do that to somebody else.

Yes. Zak broke ties with me when I refused to fire a blogger named Brandon Morse from Defy because Brandon's views on trans people were problematic. I told Zak that many people had asked me to fire Zak because his behavior was problematic, and that I had refused to do so with him and I was going to refuse to do so with Brandon. So he announced that I was tolerant of transphobia and hate and quit the I Hit It With My Axe project, costing me about $20,000 in production funds I couldn't recoup.

Brandon didn't even work for me for very long, but it was a point of principal. I don't censor the personal views of my employees and I decide who I work with on the basis of whether they are good at their job not whether they are "on the right side of history" or whatever turn of phrase one uses. Anybody who wants to tell me who I can and can't work with because of politics can, with respect, fuck off.

As far as being a bad judge of character: Guilty as charged. The two that RPG Pundit cited are not even my worst cases of character misjudgement. I've made some doozies. I have not yet decided if my errors arise from a surfeit of niceness (thinking too well of others) or if I'm simply a high INT low WIS character and need to retreat to study books rather than engage in social interaction. Currently leaning towards the latter. :-|

OK that was funny. :D:D:D

You do seem like a notably* nice guy to me, a bit naive maybe. Of course that doesn't preclude being a high INT low WIS build too - I'm quite nice (really!) :D and I'm definitely high INT low WIS!

*Almost like estar/Rob, only he has decent WIS too. :D

But...but... if you have low WIS your assessment of whether I'm nice could be wrong because my low WIS has led me to mis-assess whether other people are nice.
There's a Latin term for this problem WHO WATCHES THE NICE MEN

But if you can work that out, are you truly low WIS? Or was that an example of high-INT inductive reasoning?
Anyway I seem to be a pretty good judge of character. My main problem is I can't keep my damn mouth shut - or my typing finger off the keyboard!

Quote from: JeremyR;1082004I dunno who at Autarch, but someone there was awfully upset with me pointing out (only like 3-4 times) that ACKS is basically a B/X/C retro-clone and most of its vaunted economic and domain system is lifted from either the Companion set or the various Gazetteers.  On their forums one of the Autarch people dubbed me a "troll" and enlisted his fans to harass me.

Well, I don't know how trolly you were being, but that is pretty damn weird.

In any case, on the one hand, I don't know if that 'pointing out' is something that indicates getting what the OSR is about. A lot of the OSR is a rehash of stuff that went before, but in a new form with a new angle.

Is ACKS a clone? Yes. But is it something 'lifted' from the Companion set? No. It's not a cut and paste job, it's the SAME CONCEPT, totally redone to suck much less.  It tries to have real economic concepts in it, instead of just mechanics pulled out of someone's ass.
