This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Communists Rise Again! (with the aid of...?)

So the latest elections in Ecuador saw a victory for yet another puppet of Hugo Chavez.  That means that at this point Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador all have heavy-duty "bolivarean" socialist governments (allied with Cuba); and Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile all have social-democrat governments.

It all got me thinking to the idea of somehow, a new Commie movement breaking out and going wild in the one place in the world where it really seems to still have serious straight-faced appeal, latinamerica.   And I thought of the potential of a game setting of would-be utopian communist "compaƱeros" fighting against the "yanqui" aggressor with the aid of... what?

Superpowers?
Ancient Inca Magic?
Undead Lich-King Che Guevara?

...Robots?

You tell me.

Please keep your politics out of my roleplaying games. The purpose of the GM is not to educate the players.

Actually, some of the stuff I've read suggests the unusual ally of an off-branch of the Catholic Church would be a real plausible possibility.  There's been a number of very vocal bishops with definite socialist leanings.

This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

I really like this idea. I can't help but to add a weird science angle - some of these bishops raising from the dead cold warriors* from back in the day.

* I'm thinking of cold war era spies injected with super serum or something like that...The Lazarus Project :D

"Dialectic Materialism!!!!" 1d6 + 1d4

And so on. Or, the Revolution could be aided by the unrestricted use of Diplomacy checks. The PCs get to win whatever allies they want through their die rolls, and... the GM gets to bring in tanks once the governments gets antsy. Good times!

Before 911 because the new reichstag fire, there was a strong anti-capitalism movement sweeping parts of the world brought about mainly by the fact that things like downsizing, outsourcing and other corporate schemes were hurting the working classes in the west while strengthening and supporting governments that allowed or used child labor, slave labor and generally kept the labor pool docile and content to work hard for little money.

For years, of course, 911 had dominated politics but now people are beginning to see thru it and notice the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor, the decreasing size of the 'middle class' and the fact people with jobgs are working harder and longer for less.

When the government allows corporations to more or less drive the working and middle classes down and down on living standards and increase poverty to make more money for the shareholders and CEOs, it's inevitable that a lot of people will resent it and consider alternatives to capitalism if that's the face capitalism is showing them.

I'll take that to mean you disagreed, but couldn't form a cogent response.

I guess that's how conservatives deal with differeing views, thay really can't respond so they just mock. "Limbaughese", it's called.
